Diablo IV Season 8, Belial’s Return, launched on April 29, 2025, with Apparition Monsters, a new investigation quest, and Boss Powers that let players customize a build around one Main effect and up to three Modifiers. This is a version-specific guide to Season 8 and patch 2.2—not a ranking of today’s best builds. For current meta recommendations, use guides explicitly updated for the current season.
What Season 8 added
Blizzard framed the season as an investigation into Belial’s return. Apparition Monsters appeared across Sanctuary, while Sayeena and Jarius joined the player in the “Lord of Lies” quest. To begin that quest, Blizzard said players needed to complete the base campaign and create a new character in the Seasonal Realm. Read Blizzard’s Season 8 overview.

The season also introduced Apparition Incursion events, a Lair Boss rework, new Legendary and Unique items, Reliquaries as the Battle Pass structure, and Season Journey rewards. Players could teleport directly to discovered Boss Lairs, and the map indicated the Lair Boss Keys required to challenge them. Blizzard’s overview describes these features.
How Boss Powers shaped Season 8 builds
Boss Powers were the season’s defining build customization system. Blizzard listed 24 powers earned from World, Event, and Lair bosses. Each had a Main effect and a Modifier effect; characters could equip one Main Power and up to three Modifier Powers at once. Some were available at any difficulty, while others required Torment I or higher. See Blizzard’s Boss Powers explanation.

In practical terms, the Main Power was the centerpiece and the Modifiers supported it. Choose powers around the build’s skill triggers, damage type, defenses, and intended activity rather than assuming one combination suited every class or player. A power that fits a boss-focused damage loop may not be the best choice for general progression or survivability.
Season 8 build guidance: leveling and endgame are different jobs
Do not treat a Season 8 build as a single recommendation that works equally well from a fresh character through endgame. Leveling guidance should account for how a build performs while skills and equipment are still being acquired. Endgame builds can assume more specialized gear and should identify their target activity, such as bossing or general progression.

When comparing build pages, check what each one actually supports: its leveling or endgame purpose, target activity, Unique and gear requirements, survivability, and how its Boss Power Main and Modifiers interact with the core skill loop. Blizzard linked to Maxroll, Icy Veins, Wowhead, PureDiablo, Mobalytics, and D4Builds as community guide resources; those are not Blizzard-authored rankings or endorsements of a universal best build. For a Season 8-specific reference to the Boss Powers themselves, consult Icy Veins’ Season 8 Boss Powers guide. Confirm the season and patch label on any build you use. For example, Game8 identifies its Necromancer Belial’s Eye Beam build as a legacy build created for Season 8 and not updated for the current season.

Patch 2.2 changed launch balance
Early previews and PTR figures are not necessarily the values that shipped. Blizzard’s April 29, 2025 patch notes reduced Belial’s Eye Beams Main effect from 1,750% to 438% damage and its damage reduction from 75% to 50%. The same dated notes reduced Andariel’s Flaming Skull damage from 1,800% to 450%. These are patch-specific game values, not evidence that either power made a build best overall. Check Blizzard’s patch 2.2 notes and dated archive entries before relying on a particular value; the archive includes later entries through June 11, 2025.

Season 8 pages remain useful for understanding that season’s mechanics, but they should not be presented as current-season recommendations. Use the community resources Blizzard linked—Maxroll, Icy Veins, Wowhead, PureDiablo, Mobalytics, and D4Builds—as starting points, then verify that a guide is updated for the season and patch you are playing. Blizzard’s overview does not name an official best build, and the available evidence does not establish a verified universal cross-class ranking.
