Level 25 was the maximum level in Diablo IV’s March 2023 beta. Blizzard’s published beta guide does not confirm that one million players reached it, so the headline figure should be treated as unverified—not as an established statistic. Level 20, meanwhile, was the threshold for two beta rewards, not the cap.
What was the maximum level in the Diablo IV beta?
Each beta character could reach level 25. The beta offered the Prologue and all of Act I in the Fractured Peaks, and players could continue playing after hitting the cap. Blizzard’s Open Beta guide describes the cap as a limit for the beta, not a statement of the full game’s maximum level.

Did one million players reach level 25?
The available official sources do not establish how many players reached level 25—or verify the claim that the number was one million. Blizzard’s beta guide gives the cap and reward requirements but no count of players who reached either level. The one-million figure should therefore not be presented as confirmed.
Why does level 20 appear in beta coverage?
Blizzard tied beta rewards to two separate milestones. Reaching Kyovashad earned the Initial Casualty title; reaching level 20 earned the Early Voyager title and Beta Wolf Pack cosmetic. Level 20 was a reward threshold, five levels below the beta cap.

When was Early Access, and what did it include?
Early Access to the Open Beta ran March 17–20, 2023, Pacific time. The general Open Beta followed March 24–27. Early Access characters could be Barbarians, Rogues, or Sorcerers; the open weekend added Druids and Necromancers. Progress carried from Early Access into the open weekend, but characters were scheduled for deletion after the beta. Blizzard’s guide also set a limit of ten characters per Battle.net account.
What did Blizzard say the beta was for?
The beta let players try early gameplay while Blizzard gathered feedback and tested server infrastructure ahead of the June 6, 2023 launch. Game director Joe Shely told Xbox Wire that Blizzard scheduled the beta early enough to act on feedback before release. In its April retrospective, Blizzard said it reviewed feedback and gameplay data and made launch changes. It also cautioned that the beta’s limited Act I content and level cap did not represent the full launch experience. Read the Xbox Wire interview and Blizzard’s beta retrospective.

What about the 163-player maximum-level figure?
That is a different statistic. Activision Blizzard reported on June 12, 2023 that 163 players had reached maximum level in Hardcore mode after launch, where deaths are permanent. It does not count beta players or substantiate the one-million beta claim. The figure appears in the publisher’s June 2023 release.
