The Diablo IV message “The game connection has been lost: your client has been disconnected from the server” confirms only that your game client lost its session with a Diablo server. It does not identify the cause. The interruption may be a Blizzard service problem, a local Wi-Fi or Ethernet fault, an ISP routing issue, security software, or a device-side problem.
Start by checking Blizzard’s current service and known-issue notices, then record exactly what happened. If you play on PC, collect a WinMTR trace while the disconnect is occurring. Compare wired and wireless play only as a diagnostic. Use the exact error code, platform, timing and troubleshooting history when you escalate.

It is a disconnect symptom, not a diagnosis. Diablo IV’s client has lost communication with the server that was handling your session, so the game may show “Reconnecting to Diablo 4” before returning you to the menu or failing to reconnect. The wording alone cannot tell you whether Blizzard, your home network, your internet provider, software on the device or the route between you and the service caused the interruption.
A player report from October 1, 2025 uses the same wording and describes repeated reconnect attempts, but it does not establish a confirmed cause or a universal fix. Treat the complete message as evidence to preserve, not as an explanation. Record any code shown with it; a code can identify a different support path.

What should I check before changing settings?
Check live service information first. Blizzard’s Diablo IV Technical Support forum index directs players to current known-issue notices and to separate PC and console connection resources. This is especially important when the problem begins suddenly or appears to affect other players.
The index’s March 1, 2023 guidance, written by Diablo IV Technical Support moderator Kalviery, tells players to check Breaking News and the @BlizzardCS account for known issues before troubleshooting. Destinations and article contents can change, so use the current links presented by Blizzard rather than relying on an old bookmark. If a notice describes an active service problem, local changes are unlikely to solve that particular incident.
If no notice matches, continue with evidence gathering. Do not assume that an apparently normal web connection proves the game’s route is healthy; a game session can fail on a particular service path while other sites continue to load.
How should I document the disconnect?
Write down the conditions around one or more failures before trying many changes. Blizzard’s forum guidance asks players to describe what they were doing, what the problem looked like and what they had already tried. A precise record makes a support request more useful and lets you compare two tests without guessing.
- Platform and edition: note PC or console and the way you launch Diablo IV.
- Exact wording: copy the complete message, including capitalization, and any numerical code.
- Timing: record the date, approximate time, region or time zone, and whether the problem is constant, intermittent or limited to a particular activity.
- Session behavior: note whether the client reconnects, returns to the menu, closes, or stays stuck trying to reconnect.
- Scope: check whether other online games or services fail at the same time, without assuming that a separate service has the same cause.
- Changes already tested: list each network, software or game step and whether it changed the result.
Keep the exact code separate from the general message. For example, “Unable to connect to battle.net. Please check your network settings (Code 1016)” appears in connection-related search results, but the available Diablo IV evidence does not establish that it has the same cause or remedy as the generic connection-lost message.

How do I use WinMTR for a Diablo IV PC disconnect?
On PC, Blizzard’s forum index recommends running WinMTR to the relevant server while the problem is actively happening. A trace collected during a normal session cannot show the path conditions that produced a later disconnect. WinMTR can give support evidence about packet loss or latency along the route, but it is not proof that one particular hop is responsible.

- Follow those instructions for the correct Diablo IV server target and WinMTR setup. Use the target Blizzard specifies instead of guessing an address from an unrelated guide.
- Start the trace before reproducing the problem, or leave it running when a disconnect is already occurring.
- When the game fails, note the exact time and preserve the complete result. Do not edit out lines merely because they look alarming.
- Include the result with a clear description of the disconnect, your platform, the message or code and the troubleshooting already attempted.
The community troubleshooting thread “For everyone having connection issues of various types: UPDATE 6-9-24” also discusses WinMTR and warns that tests and interpretations can be imperfect. A loss or latency indication at an intermediate hop is a lead for investigation, not automatic evidence that the hop is causing the game failure; some routers de-prioritize diagnostic traffic while forwarding game traffic normally.
Can switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet identify the cause?
Yes, as an optional comparison. Connecting the same device directly to the router with Ethernet can isolate a wireless-link problem, but it is not a guaranteed fix for a Blizzard-side incident or an ISP route failure. Use a cable you already have where practical; buying hardware is not a prerequisite for troubleshooting.

Run the comparison under similar game conditions and record the time and result. A single successful session is weaker evidence than repeated observations that include a failure while a trace is running.
Should I change DNS, security software or router settings?
Only as a targeted test that matches a symptom and current Blizzard instructions. The Diablo IV troubleshooting discussion mentions DNS and network-adapter power settings as possible workarounds, while explicitly cautioning that such tests are not absolute. That is different from a universal prescription.

Avoid telling every player to replace DNS servers, disable security protections or alter router safeguards. Those changes can create new privacy or security problems and may not affect a server-side outage. If an official platform guide calls for a specific setting, change one variable at a time, record the original value, test under the same conditions and restore it when the test is complete if it does not help.
Likewise, a faster internet plan, a new router or a game reinstall cannot be treated as a guaranteed solution from this message alone. The useful question is which layer the evidence implicates, not which expensive change is easiest to suggest.
What is different about Diablo IV Error 395002?
Error 395002 is a separate, identifiable error and should not be treated as a synonym for every generic connection-lost message. In a May 11, 2026 Diablo IV forum thread, a responder quotes Blizzard Support as saying that an abrupt disconnection can trigger the error and that it “will typically resolve with 15 minutes.” The wording is secondhand in that thread, so verify the current official support article before relying on that timing.
The quoted response suggests these steps if the error persists:
- Use the Battle.net repair tool for the game installation.
- On Battle.net, rebuild or remove the Battle.net Tools files as directed by the current Blizzard instructions.
- Restart the relevant launcher and device, then try again.
Use the procedure in the current Blizzard article rather than deleting unrelated folders or applying instructions written for another launcher. The forum discussion is available at “Error 395002 cant get in”. If your screen shows only the generic connection-lost text, preserve that wording and do not claim that the 395002 procedure applies.

The first diagnostic branch is the platform. Blizzard’s support index separates PC and console connection resources, so follow the guide for the device you actually use rather than mixing instructions.
- PC: WinMTR is the principal diagnostic Blizzard’s forum index asks players to collect during an active problem. Keep the trace, exact error text, platform details and troubleshooting history together.
- Console: Use the console-specific connection resource linked from the index. The PC-only WinMTR and DxDiag requests do not automatically apply to a console.
- Any platform: Check current service notices first, record whether the failure affects only Diablo IV, and include the full message or code in a support request.
Do not infer that a step documented for one platform has the same menus, files or diagnostic value on another. Platform, launcher and network path are part of the description support needs.

For PC forum posts, Blizzard’s index asks for a DxDiag and a description of the troubleshooting history. For a support ticket, it says to include MSINFO. Keep the privacy distinction clear: Blizzard specifically cautions, “Please do not attach full MSINFO files to your forum posts.” Follow the current upload instructions and submit full system reports only through the supported private channel.
Include the WinMTR output only when it was collected during the active issue, and explain the time it was running. State whether the test used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whether another connection was tried, and whether a service notice was visible. Remove personal data only according to Blizzard’s current guidance; do not publicly paste reports that contain identifying system or network information.

How can I choose the next test without guessing?
Use the symptom that is actually established:
- Many players report failures or Blizzard lists an incident: monitor the service notice and avoid broad local changes until the status changes.
- Only your device fails and you use Wi-Fi: compare with Ethernet if available, keeping the game conditions similar.
- Both Wi-Fi and Ethernet fail: collect WinMTR on PC during the failure or use the console guide; investigate the evidence before changing DNS or security settings.
- A numerical code appears: search the current Blizzard support path for that exact code and do not substitute advice for the generic message.
- The problem is intermittent: preserve timestamps and traces from a failure rather than concluding from a short successful session.
This sequence narrows the layer involved without pretending that one test can identify the answer by itself.
What should I avoid when troubleshooting?
- Do not interpret the disconnect sentence as proof of a server outage, ISP fault or hardware failure.
