Bandai Namco Japan reportedly posted a roster video by mistake in September 2024, but the captured footage showed only part of the lineup—not the full launch roster. Bandai Namco later announced the launch cast officially, although its American and European pages disagree on the total: 181 versus 182.
What was accidentally posted?
On September 13, 2024, MeriStation reported that a video had briefly appeared by mistake on Bandai Namco Entertainment Japan’s YouTube channel. Users captured footage that the report said showed up to 20 new fighters. That supports describing the incident as an accidental official-channel upload; it does not establish that a staff member deliberately leaked the material or that the video showed every playable character. The report named characters and forms including Broly, Super Garlic Jr., Dr. Wheelo, Turles, Slug and Giant Slug, Cooler and Metal Cooler, Android 13 and Fusion Android 13, Bojack and Full-Power Bojack, Janemba and Super Janemba, Tapion, Hirudegarn, and Goku as a child. Those names describe reported footage, not an independently confirmed complete roster.
How many characters were in the launch roster?
Bandai Namco’s regional pages published conflicting totals. Its American announcement on September 19, 2024 said the final 27 characters had been revealed and described 181 playable characters at launch. Bandai Namco Europe’s full-roster article also covered the final 27, but called the total 182. The available publisher pages do not explain the one-character difference, so neither figure should be presented as a universally agreed count. The European article lists additions including Frieza Force Soldier, Cabba, Frost, Toppo, film characters, and Goku (Teen). The American announcement says the final reveal includes characters from Dragon Ball Super and the Dragon Ball Z films. The leak report’s “up to 20” figure and the later “final 27” reveal refer to different descriptions and should not be conflated.
Where to check the current playable roster
For the game’s current character list, use Bandai Namco’s official fighter page. The 181 and 182 figures above are launch-era counts from 2024; the game has received later DLC and updates, so those numbers do not necessarily describe the current total. Bandai Namco’s official news page records subsequent releases and updates.
