A June 2025 estimate attributed to Alinea Analytics put Final Fantasy XVI’s Xbox sales at about 22,000 copies—but that is not an official Square Enix or Microsoft sales total. A later U.S. chart placed the game fourth among Xbox premium games by dollar sales for June, but it does not confirm the estimated copy count. The available figures offer context, not a verified verdict on how the Xbox release performed.
Where did the 22,000-copy figure come from?
On June 16, 2025, reporting by Insider Gaming attributed an estimate of 22,000 Xbox copies to Alinea Analytics. Pure Xbox also reported the estimate and quoted a June 16 post by Lakrix, identified in its report as part of Alinea Analytics: “It has sold approximately 22,000 copies on Xbox as of yesterday.” In context, “yesterday” points to June 15, so the figure describes an early launch-period estimate, not lifetime sales.

Neither outlet presented the number as a company-reported total. Pure Xbox explicitly described it as an estimate, and Insider Gaming said it was unclear how the figures had been acquired or calculated. The underlying method is not detailed enough in those reports to independently verify the count, and the available reporting does not establish Lakrix’s full name or job title.

No. A chart shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella and reported by Windows Central ranked Final Fantasy XVI fourth among premium Xbox games in U.S. dollar sales for June 2025. The chart combined physical sales with digital sales from publishers that share data with Circana, and excluded add-on content.

That ranking and the 22,000-copy estimate measure different things. The estimate is a copy count for the early Xbox launch period, with its precise coverage and method unclear; the chart is a U.S. dollar-sales ranking across June, with partial digital coverage. It provides no unit total and cannot be used to validate or replace the estimate.
When did the Xbox version launch?
Square Enix announced the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC release on June 9, 2025, as a digital release with Xbox Play Anywhere support. The company’s platform timeline lists the PS5 launch on June 22, 2023, and the Steam and Epic Games Store release on September 17, 2024. Xbox therefore received the game later, but those dates alone do not show why sales reached any particular level.

Square Enix’s announcement covered a free demo, with save data carrying into the full game, as well as the base game and downloadable content. What can the figures actually tell us?
- The approximately 22,000 figure is an Alinea Analytics estimate reported in June 2025, not a confirmed sales disclosure.
- The Circana-based chart shows a fourth-place U.S. ranking by dollar sales for June, not a copy count or global result.
- The available sources do not establish Square Enix’s expectations for the Xbox release, so they do not provide a benchmark for calling the result “poor.”
- The later Xbox launch relative to PS5 and PC is a timeline fact, not evidence that release timing caused the reported result.
