Square Enix has officially named three looks—Clive’s Ifrit Black, Jill’s Shiva White, and Torgal’s Ice Blue—but confirms that other characters can also be changed. Because its English update notes do not list the full roster, this guide ranks only those three named appearances rather than claiming to cover every outfit.

Three officially named appearances, ranked
This is an editorial ranking of the three designs named in Square Enix’s Japanese announcement—not a ranking of every appearance in the game. The order considers how distinct each look is from the default, its palette and silhouette, its connection to the character’s theme, and how legible it appears in gameplay and cutscenes. The names below are those used in the Japanese announcement; they are not independently confirmed English localization strings.
1. Clive — Ifrit Black
Of the three named designs, Ifrit Black has the strongest thematic hook: its name directly evokes Clive’s connection to Ifrit. The dark palette also gives the look an immediately different visual identity. That combination of character relevance and clear contrast earns it the top spot in this subjective ranking.
Rank #2
- Titanic Clashes - When rival Dominants come head to head, epic battles between their Eikons ensue
- Eikonic Action - Clive utilizes the powers of multiple Eikons in breakneck battle to deliver dynamic action combat
- A true Dark Fantasy - Discover a gritty and mature narrative steeped in realism
- Explore the realm of Valisthea - A stunning world plunged into conflict by nations at war with each other
2. Jill — Shiva White
Shiva White connects Jill’s appearance to Shiva through its name and a crisp, light palette. It offers a strong contrast with a darker look such as Ifrit Black while keeping the design’s visual idea easy to read. It ranks second for its direct thematic fit and distinctive color direction.
3. Torgal — Ice Blue
Ice Blue gives Torgal a clear elemental color identity. It is a simpler concept than the two named Eikon-linked looks above, but the cool palette suits the design and should remain easy to distinguish during play. It rounds out the three named examples.
Are these all the outfits in Final Fantasy XVI?
No complete roster can be established from the official English update notes. Square Enix’s English notes describe the feature as applying to several characters, including Clive, while the Japanese announcement names Clive, Jill, and Torgal and explicitly says other characters can also be changed. Those three names are examples, not a confirmed total. The official character page identifies characters but does not provide a complete alternate-appearance list.
Rank #3
- A BOLD NEW ERA FOR FINAL FANTASY — Experience the first fully fledged action RPG in the mainline Final Fantasy series, blending cinematic storytelling with fast, real‑time combat.
- AN EPIC DARK FANTASY TALE — Enter a world shaped by the mighty Eikons and their Dominants, following Clive Rosfield’s tragic path of duty, loss, and vengeance against the Dark Eikon Ifrit.
- TITANIC EIKON BATTLES — Witness colossal clashes when rival Dominants confront one another, unleashing spectacular, large‑scale battles between godlike Eikons.
- EIKONIC ACTION COMBAT — Harness the powers of multiple Eikons in fluid, high‑speed combat, combining swordplay with devastating abilities to suit your preferred playstyle.
- PLAY YOUR WAY — Choose Story‑focused mode for cinematic accessibility with assisted evasion and simplified combos, or Action‑focused mode for full manual control and skill‑driven mastery.
So, if you want every available appearance for your specific platform and game version, check the in-game Appearance menu rather than treating this short, officially named list as exhaustive. This guide does not assign unverified outfit names or availability to other characters.

Are alternate appearances DLC?
The appearance option arrived in update 1.10, which Square Enix says is available to all players; the official materials do not say that paid expansions are required for it. Square Enix Support identifies Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide as paid story expansions, also sold together in an Expansion Pass. Those story expansions are separate from the update that added appearance changes. See Square Enix Support’s DLC information.
You’ll need the game
If you do not own Final Fantasy XVI, Square Enix’s store page lists physical Standard and Deluxe editions. The listing does not establish that either edition includes a particular alternate appearance.
