What did Wuk Lamat’s voice actor say about the threats?
Bryer said the abuse followed her work on Dawntrail and continued across online platforms, including on posts unrelated to the game. In a statement reported by PinkNews on 1 November 2024, she described the frequency this way: “I’ve been hiding and blocking most of them but it’s been like this every single day, on every single tweet.” She also said the attacks were happening “all because I voiced a Final Fantasy character.” PinkNews reported her account.

The reported examples—including misgendering, death and rape threats, doxxing attempts, and threats against her family—are Bryer’s account of what she experienced. The cited coverage does not independently verify each incident, identify who was responsible, or establish an overall count. Her description of daily abuse is testimony, not a measured statistic.
What did Yoshi-P say about the abuse?
In remarks reported by PC Gamer on 30 October 2024, Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida condemned personal attacks on staff as harmful and unconstructive. He urged players to direct criticism to him, saying: “Any sort of criticism, bring it to me, I’m the one approving this material.” PC Gamer reported Yoshida’s remarks.

Later, in an interview reported by GamesRadar+ on 19 November 2025, Bryer said Yoshida had apologized to her in person on behalf of Square Enix and described him as kind. She also expressed concern that the treatment could discourage aspiring voice actors. GamesRadar+ reported on that later interview.

Players can criticize Dawntrail, Wuk Lamat’s writing, or a voice performance without targeting the actor with identity-based abuse, threats, or attempts to expose private information. The distinction is about both the target and the content: criticism addresses the game or creative decisions; harassment attacks a person. Yoshida’s invitation to direct criticism to him does not make threats or doxxing acceptable.

The reporting describes the abuse in the context of mixed player reactions to the expansion and its central character, but it does not establish that every negative reaction was abusive or that all criticism came from the same people. It also offers no reliable count of incidents or independent investigation into them.
