What happened to Marvel Rivals mods?
Players began reporting mod failures after the September 3 update. A September 4 community post on the Nexus Mods Marvel Rivals page described mods no longer working and mentioned re-encryption as a workaround. Other players said some mod categories remained broken. These are community reports, not confirmation that the publisher intentionally disabled all mods or that a workaround is reliable.
The reports echo a player’s question: “Is anyone else experiencing the same issue or did today’s update break mod support?” The evidence supports the possibility of a compatibility break; it does not establish a blanket policy change.
What has NetEase officially said about mods?
In a May 25, 2026 notice on the official Marvel Rivals Discord, titled “Penalty Announcement: Zero Tolerance on Cheats,” the publisher warned: “We urge all rivals: DO NOT download, purchase, distribute, or use any cheats, scripts, game modifiers, or illicit third-party tools.” The notice says confirmed violations may receive permanent bans. It is a broad anti-cheat warning, not a specific announcement that every cosmetic-only mod is banned.

A separate rule applies to official competition. The Marvel Rivals Ignite Stage 1 rules prohibit unauthorized configurations and client-side modifications that provide a competitive advantage in official matches. That tournament restriction should not be treated as a definitive rule for every mod in ordinary matchmaking.
Does the October 9 update explain the breakage?
No. The latest official patch notes available on October 8 were published October 6 and scheduled the Season 10.5 update to begin October 9, 2026, at 09:00 UTC, with maintenance estimated at approximately two hours. The notes cover new content and fixes but do not mention mods. At the time those notes were checked, the update was still upcoming; it cannot be cited as the update that had already broken mods.

Should you reinstall or re-encrypt a mod?
A Nexus Mods commenter, mod author DeathChaos, wrote on July 31, 2026: “NetEase is currently cracking down on people using config mods, please remove any config mods, the UTOC Bypass and then restart your PC if you’ve been kicked out of a match.” This is the author’s community comment, not an official publisher statement. Later community discussion described re-encryption as a workaround for some post-update failures, but also reported categories that remained broken. It is not an official fix or a guarantee, and this evidence does not establish that bypass tools are safe or permitted.
If you are concerned about enforcement, the conservative choice is not to use config mods, bypass tools, or other unauthorized modifications while the policy and compatibility situation remain unclear. Avoid treating a community workaround as publisher-approved guidance.
What players can conclude
- There are player reports of widespread mod failures after the September 3 update.
- Those reports do not prove that NetEase intentionally ended all cosmetic mod support.
- The official anti-cheat notice warns against cheats, scripts, game modifiers, and illicit third-party tools, with permanent bans possible for confirmed violations.
- Official tournament rules specifically prohibit unauthorized modifications that provide a competitive advantage in official matches.
- The October 9 Season 10.5 patch notes did not address mods and were still describing a scheduled, future update on October 8.
NetEase’s position on every cosmetic-only mod in ordinary play remains unresolved by the available official statements. Compatibility failure, tournament eligibility, and general enforcement policy are related questions, but they are not the same claim.
