In the 2024 remake, the sign players normally see at Silent Hill Ranch uses the original lettering, not Comic Sans. But a Comic Sans version reportedly survives as a hidden easter egg among discarded objects inside the ranch area—and finding it required clipping out of bounds in the PC version.
How the ranch sign changed across versions
| Version | Sign lettering and visibility |
|---|---|
| Silent Hill 2 (2001) | The original ranch sign used the lettering restored on the remake’s normally visible sign, according to contemporary comparisons. Konami identifies this as the original game’s release year: Konami’s announcement. |
| Silent Hill 2 HD Collection (2012) | The ranch sign became associated with Comic Sans in this version, making the lettering a memorable point of criticism. Push Square and Twisted Voxel compare the versions. |
| Silent Hill 2 (2024 remake) | The sign in the accessible scene returns to the original lettering; a Comic Sans version is reportedly tucked away out of bounds at the ranch, rather than presented as a normal collectible. The remake was developed by Bloober Team. PlayStation’s release announcement. |
Where is the Comic Sans sign in the remake?
Contemporary reporting places it in an abandoned warehouse area at the ranch, mixed in with discarded objects. The reported discovery was made in the PC version by clipping out of bounds, so it is not something players ordinarily encounter by following the intended route through the game.

That distinction matters: the remake does not put the Comic Sans sign back in the main scene. It reportedly preserves that version as a hidden reference while showing the original-style sign during normal play.
Why is the sign there?
Reports interpret the hidden sign as a joke about the HD Collection’s controversial lettering. That is a reasonable reading of its placement, but no developer statement confirming the easter egg’s intended meaning is established in the cited coverage. Treat the explanation as an interpretation, not confirmed authorial intent.
