Steve Downes’s “BIG NEWS A’COMIN!!” post helped fuel speculation ahead of Halo World Championship 2025, but it did not confirm a remake. Halo Studios later officially announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original game’s campaign. The game launched globally on July 28, 2026, according to Halo Waypoint.
What did Steve Downes’s message actually say?
On October 15, 2025, Master Chief voice actor Steve Downes posted a photo and wrote: “Jen and I can’t wait to see you guys at the Halo World Championship in Seattle, October 24 and 25! PS: BIG NEWS A’COMIN!!” Notebookcheck reported the post ahead of the event. It teased unspecified news; it did not name a game, confirm a remake, or establish what the announcement would be. What did Halo Studios announce at HaloWC?
Halo Studios announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. The official platform list is Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. Halo Studios also said a playable pre-release build would be available at Halo World Championship. The announcement did not include Nintendo Switch 2 in its platform list. What is new in Campaign Evolved?
Halo Studios describes the remake as built in Unreal Engine 5, with rebuilt visuals, updated animation, remastered music, and re-recorded voice lines. It also adds three new prequel missions and additional weapons and vehicles. These are announced features, not an independent assessment of how the game plays.

Halo Studios executive producer Damon Conn said the team wanted to begin with the campaign that defined Halo so new players could understand the story from its beginning. How do co-op and multiplayer work?
Halo Studios announced online co-op for up to four players across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5. Halo Waypoint also confirms two-player split-screen on consoles, cross-platform play, and shared progression. The announcement does not describe split-screen for PC. Halo Waypoint

When did Halo: Campaign Evolved launch?
Halo Waypoint’s release information lists a global launch date of July 28, 2026, with early access beginning July 23. Those are the official release dates; Downes’s 2025 teaser itself did not specify a release window. Halo Waypoint’s release and edition information
