Later official rules prohibit certain unauthorized configuration changes and unfair mods, while the 2026 Ignite rules apply specifically to official tournament matches. Those sources do not establish the status of every cosmetic-only mod for ordinary players.
Did the Season 1 update disable Marvel Rivals mods?
It appeared to, but the available official patch notes do not confirm a deliberate mod-blocking change. NetEase announced Season 1 for January 10, 2025, and published the Version 20250110 patch notes on January 8. They list season content, PC graphics settings, and fixes, but do not mention mods or an anti-mod change.
On January 10, PC Gamer reported that mods appeared to have stopped working after the update. The story relayed community reports that asset hash checking had been introduced. That is a community-attributed technical explanation in contemporaneous coverage, not an explanation stated in NetEase’s patch notes.
Are Marvel Rivals mods bannable?
NetEase’s Prohibited Software & Hardware List of Marvel Rivals, published February 26, 2025, identifies unauthorized client configuration modification and unfair mod resources that break balance as prohibited. Its examples include “image rendering/scene texture mods” and “camera-shake reduction/removal mods.” The list says violations may lead to removal or stricter penalties, proportionate to severity.

Why might a mod stop working after an update?
In this case, players reported that mods stopped working after the January 10, 2025 update, and PC Gamer relayed community claims about asset hash checking. The official patch notes neither mention that mechanism nor confirm that it caused the reported failures. The sources do not establish how many mods were affected, how many players used them, or whether a particular mod will work with the current client.

Can you still use cosmetic mods?
The sources do not conclusively establish that every cosmetic-only mod is allowed for ordinary players. NetEase’s 2025 list names certain unfair mod resources and unauthorized client configuration changes; it does not provide a blanket approval for cosmetic alterations. Its examples also show that a change described as visual can still fall within a prohibited category: image-rendering and scene-texture mods are explicitly listed.
For official competition, the scope is clearer. The official Marvel Rivals Ignite 2026 rules state: “The use of any unauthorized config, ini, mod, or macro will be ruled as a violation by the official.” These are tournament rules, not a complete statement of enforcement for every ordinary player.

How the rules differ by date and scope
| Source | Date and scope | What it says about mods |
|---|---|---|
| Version 20250110 patch notes | January 8, 2025; Season 1 game update | Does not mention disabling mods. |
| Prohibited Software & Hardware List | February 26, 2025; general prohibited-software list | Prohibits unauthorized client configuration changes and unfair mod resources that break balance; lists visual and camera-shake examples. |
| Ignite 2026 rules | 2026; official tournament matches | Prohibits unauthorized configs, ini files, mods, and macros in official matches and sets tournament penalties. |
The tournament rules should not be read as an exact universal enforcement promise for all ordinary players, and the general prohibited list should not be treated as explicit approval of cosmetic-only mods. Policies and client behavior may change after these dated sources.
