Some Marvel Rivals players are questioning whether they are encountering more suspected cheaters in ranked, but the public discussions available do not establish that cheating has increased—or how common it is. NetEase says it has detected and punished confirmed violations, and it has described two separate ways players may recover lost ranked points: a report-and-verification trial for confirmed cheats and an automatic protocol for confirmed malicious throwing.
Why ranked players are raising concerns
In a March 2026 discussion on r/marvelrivals, one player asked whether there had really been more cheaters in solo ranked games, particularly at higher ranks. Other comments described suspected techniques and uncertainty about how easy they might be to detect. These are individual reports and impressions, not verified findings or a representative survey.
The sources available do not provide a current ranked-specific cheating rate or comparable data showing a trend over time. That means the frustration is real as a player concern, but it cannot by itself show that cheating is widespread or increasing.
What Marvel Rivals says it is doing about cheats
In its May 25, 2026 “Penalty Announcement: Zero Tolerance on Cheats”, Marvel Rivals said telemetry detected unauthorized third-party enhancements after a weekend update and that it carried out a targeted purge. The developer said its enforcement approach combines multi-layer anti-cheat monitoring, abnormal-behavior detection, historical data review, and manual verification.

Marvel Rivals said accounts confirmed to have used cheats, illicit assist programs, or client tampering were permanently banned, and that cheat signatures were added to its automated penalty system. This is the developer’s account of its enforcement, not an independent audit of detection performance or the number of cheaters in ranked.
The announcement’s instruction to players was direct: “If you spot a suspected anomaly or cheater in your matches, report them immediately.” It also says players who believe they were penalized unjustly should contact official Customer Support to appeal. The same announcement warns against downloading, purchasing, distributing, or using cheats, scripts, game modifiers, and illicit third-party tools.

How the two ranked-point recovery policies differ
Marvel Rivals has described two distinct compensation mechanisms. One concerns a successfully reported, system-verified cheater; the other concerns a teammate’s confirmed malicious throwing. Their triggers and processes are not interchangeable.

The cheater-related refund is conditional, not automatic for every accusation: the player must successfully report the suspected cheater and the system must verify the cheat. The announcement states: “If you encounter a cheater in your match, successfully report them, and the system verifies the cheat, you will be fully refunded ALL Ranked Points lost during that match.”

Other reported abuse is not proof of a widespread exploit
In August 2026, PC Gamer reported a streamer’s allegation that players were manipulating configuration files to trigger match cancellations while losing. The report establishes that the allegation was made; it does not independently verify the behavior or show that it is a broad problem.
A 2024 official ban notice also lists dated examples of sanctions involving unauthorized software and malicious client hacking. Those historical examples show that the developer has publicly addressed such violations before, but they do not measure the current rate of cheating in ranked.

What players can do
- Report suspected cheating: Use the in-game reporting process when you encounter a suspected anomaly or cheater, as the May 2026 announcement advises. A point refund under the announced trial requires a successful report and system verification.
- Appeal a penalty you believe was mistaken: Contact official Marvel Rivals Customer Support, as directed in the enforcement announcement.
- Distinguish cheating from malicious throwing: The automatic Victim Compensation Protocol applies to confirmed malicious teammate behavior that caused both a loss and a point deduction; it is separate from the cheater-report trial.
