Spoilers for the endings of Yakuza 3 and Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties. Yes, story details—including a reportedly changed ending—circulated online before release. Reddit users said the material came from script or story data recovered from the demo, but SEGA did not confirm that account in the sources reviewed. Now that the game is out, GamesRadar reports that Mine survives in Kiwami 3, unlike in the original Yakuza 3.
What leaked, and was the leak confirmed?
In January 2026, users on Reddit’s r/yakuzagames warned that new story details for Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties were circulating. In a separate discussion, a commenter described the ending material as the game’s script datamined from its demo. Those posts establish that the claim was discussed before launch; they do not verify how the material escaped or that it was authentic. SEGA’s official announcements reviewed here did not confirm the leak or its alleged demo-data provenance. The r/yakuzagames discussion and the ending-leak discussion are community reports, not official confirmation.

Does Mine survive in Kiwami 3?
According to GamesRadar’s post-release report of February 19, 2026, Mine is revealed to have survived in Kiwami 3. In the original Yakuza 3, he sacrifices himself and falls from a hospital building to his apparent death. That is a meaningful change to the ending, but the reported outcome should be distinguished from the earlier leak: the outlet’s account describes the released game, and does not prove the leak’s claimed extraction route or that every detail circulating beforehand was accurate. What kind of game is Kiwami 3, and what is Dark Ties?
Yakuza Kiwami 3
SEGA describes Kiwami 3 as a reimagining of 2009’s Yakuza 3, with updated visuals and technology, added cutscenes, and additional content. Its official story page centers on Kiryu as conflict reaches the orphanage in Okinawa, the Tojo Clan faces a succession dispute, and a political conspiracy begins to unravel in Okinawa and Tokyo. The remake’s revisions make a changed character outcome possible, but SEGA’s synopsis does not itself explain Mine’s fate. SEGA’s official Kiwami 3 story page outlines the premise.

Dark Ties
Dark Ties is a separate, new story included with the title, starring Yoshitaka Mine. SEGA describes it as following his path from startup entrepreneur to hardened yakuza. It is not the name of the Kiwami 3 ending or a label for the leak. SEGA’s official game site presents both stories.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties launched on February 12, 2026. SEGA lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam; its release details identify Xbox and Steam as digital-only. Package and digital editions are listed, but the announcement does not establish current physical stock in any particular market, so check local retailers for availability. SEGA’s out-now announcement has the platform and edition details, while its initial announcement gives the original release information.
