The indexed file is a 5.5 MB Windows executable attributed to LLC IT Integration. A 2026 herdProtect report classified it as potentially unwanted, with one detection out of 68 scanners and a warning that the installer has been known to bundle unwanted software. Do not run it casually; preserve its hash if you need to investigate, scan the file and your computer with reputable security software, then quarantine or remove it unless you can establish a legitimate business reason for keeping it.
What “direct x.EXE” refers to
The title is ambiguous because several files can use similar names. The strongest consistent match is direct-x.exe, a Windows executable described in metadata as a “DirectX installer.” That metadata attributes the program to LLC IT Integration, not to Microsoft. The report identifies version 3.0.0.70, a Win32 executable measuring 5.5 MB (5,753,952 bytes), and the following SHA-256 hash:

A filename containing “DirectX” does not establish that a file is an authentic Microsoft component. Windows programs can choose any filename, and malware or bundled installers often use names that sound like familiar system software. Treat the identity, publisher, source domain, digital signature and hash as separate questions.

What the available safety evidence shows
herdProtect’s 2026 report classifies direct-x.exe as Potentially unwanted. It records 1 / 68 scanner detections, with the detection name PUP.ArchiveD.Installer. The report says the setup application “has been known to bundle potentially unwanted software.” Its product label is “DirectX installer,” while its publisher field is LLC IT Integration.
That is a reason to treat the file as untrusted, but it is not a complete malware verdict. One detection in the cited scan does not prove that every copy is malicious, and it does not prove that the file is safe. Detection results can change as scanners update, and a file can be repackaged under the same name. The evidence also does not establish that this executable is an official Microsoft distribution. Do not bypass a warning merely because the program claims to install DirectX.
Where the file was seen
The report records the executable at http://dl2.directx11.info/direct-x.exe. A related domain record lists an observed DNS resolution on April 16, 2016, and identifies the server location at that time as Saint Petersburg, Russia. Those are historical hosting observations. They do not prove who operates the domain now, where a current copy is hosted, or whether the URL remains available.
If your copy came from a different address, a game mod, an unofficial driver package, a file-sharing service or an email attachment, do not assume it is the same binary. Record the exact path and source, calculate the hash, and have your security software scan that copy. Two files with the same name can be entirely different programs.

Why security software may flag it
Unrelated software bundled into an installer
The cited detection specifically describes an installer associated with potentially unwanted software. Bundled installers may offer browser changes, extra utilities, advertising components or other programs during setup. Even when the advertised application is not itself classified as malware, an installer that silently adds unrelated software creates security, privacy and maintenance risks.
Publisher and provenance do not match a verified Microsoft source
The metadata names LLC IT Integration as publisher. That identity is different from a verified Microsoft distribution, and the observed download domain is not a Microsoft domain. A familiar product name in the filename cannot compensate for an unknown publisher or an untrusted delivery channel.
A low detection count is not a clean bill of health
One detection out of 68 means the cited scan was not unanimous. It does not mean the remaining scanners proved the file safe, nor does it account for later changes to the file or to detection rules. Use the result as a risk signal and investigate the actual hash on the machine where you found it.

1. Do not open or run it
Do not double-click the file, launch it from a command prompt, or approve an administrator prompt for it. If Windows or your security product has already blocked it, leave it blocked. Do not disable real-time protection to force the installer to start.

- Original half height bracket matches with the low profile brackets make the Glorto GeForce GT 610 graphics card fit well with all PC tower, small form factor and HTPC(except micro form factor)
2. Record its location and preserve evidence only if needed
Note the complete path, filename, creation date and the download source. If the file is part of an incident investigation, copy it to protected removable storage or an isolated analysis system without executing it. Keep the original hash with your notes. Do not upload or redistribute a suspicious executable merely to ask someone else to test it.
3. Scan the file with current security software
Use a reputable, up-to-date antivirus or endpoint-security product. In Windows, right-click the file in File Explorer and choose the available scan command from your security software. Then run a full-system scan, because an installer that was executed may have written additional files elsewhere. Follow the product’s quarantine recommendation rather than choosing an “allow” or “restore” action solely because the filename looks familiar.
4. Check the SHA-256 hash
Hashing lets you distinguish the indexed sample from another file with the same name. In PowerShell, open a window in the folder containing the executable and run:
Get-FileHash .direct-x.exe -Algorithm SHA256
At a Command Prompt, run:
certutil -hashfile "C:pathtodirect-x.exe" SHA256
Compare the resulting value with 7ee322c318b04dde919f25c6bfa60b6e10c13da8a054b2d40479e33c68a938ad. A matching hash means the bytes match the sample described in the report; it does not make that sample trustworthy. A different hash means you are dealing with a different file and should not apply the report’s result to it.

5. Inspect the publisher and signature
Right-click the file, select Properties, and look for a Digital Signatures tab. Select the signer, choose Details, and check whether Windows reports that the signature is valid and who signed it. A valid signature can support authenticity of the signed publisher, but it does not guarantee that an installer is desirable or free of bundled offers. An absent or invalid signature is an additional warning, not proof by itself that the file is malware.
6. Quarantine or delete the executable
If you have no documented reason to keep the file, allow your security product to quarantine it or delete it manually after the scan. Empty the Recycle Bin only after you have finished any evidence preservation. If the file is in a shared game or application folder, remove only the suspicious executable and check the application’s official repair or reinstall function rather than deleting unrelated files at random.
7. If you already executed it, scan the whole system
Disconnect the computer from the network if you see unusual pop-ups, unknown processes or unexpected account activity, while leaving enough connectivity for your security tool to obtain updates if your incident procedure permits it. Run a full scan and, if available, an offline scan that checks the system before Windows starts. Review recently installed applications, browser extensions and startup entries for items added at the same time. Remove only entries you can identify; if you are unsure, preserve their names and paths for an administrator or qualified technician.

If you entered passwords while the installer was running or you observe suspicious account activity, change important passwords from a separate, trusted device and enable multifactor authentication where available. Prioritize email, game-platform, payment and administrator accounts. This precaution is appropriate after an untrusted program has run, even when a scan has not confirmed malware.

9. Repair software only from a trusted source
If a game says DirectX is missing, obtain the required component through Windows Update, the game publisher’s official support channel or another source that you can independently verify. Do not use the suspicious executable as a repair tool merely because its filename mentions DirectX. Reinstalling a game or using its built-in file verification may be safer than running an unknown installer.

Use all of these checks together; no single check proves safety:
| Check | What to look for | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Publisher identity | A signer and publisher you can connect to the software’s legitimate vendor | LLC IT Integration is the publisher listed for the indexed direct-x.exe sample; that does not verify Microsoft origin. |
| Official source or domain | A download hosted by the software vendor or a trusted distribution channel | The recorded sample was seen at dl2.directx11.info/direct-x.exe, not a verified Microsoft address. |
| Cryptographic hash | A SHA-256 value that matches the vendor’s published value | The indexed sample’s value is 7ee322c318b04dde919f25c6bfa60b6e10c13da8a054b2d40479e33c68a938ad. |
| Digital signature | Windows reports a valid signature and identifies the signer | A valid signature helps establish who signed the bytes; it does not by itself rule out unwanted bundled software. |
| Multi-engine reputation | Results from current, reputable scanners for the exact hash | The cited report recorded 1 / 68 detections in 2026, so the result is a warning rather than a complete consensus. |
| Installer behavior | Clear, opt-in choices and no unrelated offers | The report warns that this setup has been known to bundle potentially unwanted software; stop if unrelated software is offered. |
Should you delete direct-x.exe?
For the indexed sample, deletion or quarantine is the sensible default unless you have a documented, independently verified reason to retain it. The file is attributed to a third party, came from a historically unverified domain, and was classified as potentially unwanted. If you need to investigate a suspected incident, preserve the hash and a controlled copy first; otherwise, remove it and obtain any needed DirectX component through a trusted channel.
Do not treat deletion as proof that the computer is clean if the executable was run. A setup program can create other files, scheduled tasks, services, browser changes or registry entries. A full scan and a review of recent system changes are necessary in that situation.
