Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed asks you to use Paint to restore or create and Thinner to remove or alter parts of the world. The controls depend on your platform and edition, so use the prompts and input settings in your installed game rather than assuming one button chart applies everywhere.
How Paint and Thinner work
Mickey’s magic brush gives you two complementary ways to affect the environment. Paint is the restorative, constructive choice; Thinner removes or alters things. The publisher describes these actions as ways to restore or reshape the world, and says that painting path elements or thinning obstacles can change the environment and narrative.
When you meet an interactive object or route, look for its contextual prompt and consider what result you want before using the brush. Don’t assume every surface accepts either action. Observe what changes and use the prompt to guide your next choice.
Controls depend on your platform
The original console and PC release launched on September 24, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Mobile became available for iOS and Android on September 17, 2026. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition arrived October 6, 2026. Those releases use different input methods, so a controller or keyboard mapping is not a mobile control guide.

Controller control categories
Secondary controller references describe the following broad layout. Treat it as a guide to what kinds of inputs to look for, not a universal button chart: the named buttons differ between PlayStation and Xbox, and mappings may vary by device or version.
- Left stick: movement; right stick: camera.
- Stick press: lock-on.
- Triggers: Paint and Thinner.
- Bumpers: Sketch and Guardians.
- Face buttons: Jump, Dash, Ground Pound, and Spin Attack.
Use the on-screen prompts and in-game settings to confirm the actual binding for your controller.

PC keyboard and mouse controls
A secondary PC guide published in June 2025 lists these as default controls. It is a starting reference, not a definitive official manual, so confirm the bindings in your current build.

If the default mouse buttons feel awkward or you want to change which input releases Paint or Thinner, the guide reports remapping in Game Settings > Input. Check that menu in your own build rather than relying on a binding list from another version.

A beginner practice order
- Get comfortable with the brush first. Identify which action restores or creates and which removes or alters. Use prompts around interactive elements to help decide what to try.
- Separate aiming from moving. Practice moving the character and adjusting the camera as distinct tasks. The precise inputs depend on your platform.
- Add movement skills once the basics feel clear. The console and PC release includes Dash, Sprint, Ground Pound, and Spin Attack. The publisher identifies these as available skills but does not prescribe a training order.
- Recheck bindings when you change devices or editions. Use the installed game’s prompts and settings; on mobile, follow the app’s touchscreen instructions.
Which version’s controls should you use?
Choose guidance for the exact platform and input method you are playing with: controller, PC keyboard and mouse, mobile touchscreen, or Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 mouse-style control. The Switch 2 edition’s enhanced visuals, improved framerate, mouse-style option, and Costume Pack DLC are edition-specific; mobile is described as having touch controls optimized for its gameplay. The available material documents these differences, but does not establish comparative comfort or performance impressions.
