dlaa2werr.dll is a Lexmark scanning component associated with the Windows Image Acquisition, or WIA, driver system. If dlaa2werr.dll is missing, Windows usually needs the original Lexmark printer or scanner package repaired—not an isolated DLL copied from the internet.
Public file inventories describe it as WIA Error Handler, developed by Lexmark International Inc. Related files include DLAA2mini.dll, DLAA2view.dll, and lxa2WIA.dll. The exact Lexmark models that use this file are not confirmed, so identify the installed device before downloading anything.

| File | dlaa2werr.dll |
| Role | Lexmark WIA Error Handler |
| Software type | Third-party imaging and scanner component |

| Likely owner | An older Lexmark printer, multifunction device, or scanner package |
| Version and architecture | Not authoritative; do not choose a replacement by file size or version alone |
First, identify the Lexmark software that owns the file
The error may appear when launching Lexmark scanning software, opening another imaging application, starting Windows, reconnecting an older device, or after an antivirus action or incomplete uninstall. The filename alone cannot identify the exact application or device model.
Check installed applications
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Record the names of every Lexmark entry, especially scanning, imaging, printer, or TWAIN software.
Also check the error dialog for the executable name and file path. A path containing a Lexmark-named folder is useful evidence. Do not assume that a file located in C:WindowsSystem32 is a Windows component.

Check Printers & scanners
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 11. On Windows 10, select Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Look for the Lexmark model.
- Select it and note the exact model name.
- If the printer is missing, check the physical label or the device’s network settings.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for a Lexmark entry or a device with a warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Properties.
- Review the General, Driver, and Events tabs.
If you find related files such as DLAA2mini.dll, DLAA2view.dll, or lxa2WIA.dll, they support the conclusion that the missing file belongs to Lexmark imaging software. They do not tell you which replacement DLL to download.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Lexmark driver package
This is the most likely solution because dlaa2werr.dll is part of a vendor driver package. WIA drivers are installed through the device’s software and INF configuration, so reinstalling the parent package restores the file and its dependencies together.
- Identify the exact Lexmark printer or scanner model.
- Open Lexmark’s official Drivers & Downloads page.
- Select the exact model rather than a similarly named series.
- Select the installed Windows version and the appropriate scanning or multifunction package.
- Download the current model-specific installer.
- Disconnect the USB cable if Lexmark’s installer requests it. For a network device, keep the device powered on and connected to the same network.
- Open the downloaded installer.
- Follow the setup prompts and reconnect the device only when instructed.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Lexmark scanning application and test a scan.
Lexmark’s download system is model-specific. Some multifunction devices use separate TWAIN or WIA scanning packages, while some USB WIA drivers may be delivered through Windows Update. Do not treat a package for network scanning as a universal fix.

Cleanly remove and reinstall Lexmark software
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find each Lexmark entry related to the affected device.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the uninstall process.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to the official Lexmark Drivers & Downloads page.
- Install the package for the exact model and Windows version.
- Restart again and test scanning.
For older desktop packages:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the Lexmark software.
- Choose Uninstall, Change, or Repair, depending on what the installer provides.
- Restart when finished.
Installing a newer package over a damaged older installation can leave stale files or startup entries. A clean uninstall is preferable when the error survives a normal reinstall.
Manually hunting through several driver generations is slow, especially when the device name is unclear. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its full-version driver installation is optional, and reinstalling the exact Lexmark package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 2: Repair the installed Lexmark application
If Lexmark software is present and the file was deleted or damaged, Windows may be able to repair the package without removing device settings.
Windows 11 and Windows 10 Store-style app repair
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the Lexmark application.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the scanner.
If Repair is unavailable or does not help, return to the same screen and select Reset if offered. Reset can remove application data or preferences, so you may need to configure the scanner again.

Traditional desktop software
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the Lexmark package.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test scanning.
Microsoft documents these repair paths in its guide to repairing apps and programs in Windows.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may quarantine a legitimate vendor DLL after a detection or an interrupted installation. Do not restore the file simply because an application says it is missing.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
dlaa2werr.dllor Lexmark software. - Expand the detection to view its location and status.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- It came from a verified Lexmark installation.
- The original installer was obtained from Lexmark.
- The detection is demonstrably a false positive.
- Your security software has completed a review.
Otherwise, leave it quarantined and reinstall the Lexmark package from the official source. Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains the risks of restoring potentially harmful files.
If the file was quarantined because of tampering or malware, run a full Microsoft Defender scan before reinstalling the driver.
Fix 4: Confirm the WIA service and device state
WIA is Microsoft’s Windows Image Acquisition architecture for scanners and cameras. Lexmark supplies vendor files that plug into this architecture; WIA itself does not make dlaa2werr.dll a Windows system file.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
- Double-click it.
- Set Startup type to Automatic or Manual, depending on the existing configuration.
- If the service is stopped, select Start.
- Select Apply > OK.
- Restart the Lexmark software.
If WIA will not start, record the service error and check Device Manager for a failed scanner or USB device. Microsoft’s overview of Windows Image Acquisition drivers explains how vendor scanner drivers fit into Windows.

There is no general Windows Features checkbox that installs the Lexmark DLL. Do not enable unrelated legacy components in Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off expecting that to restore it.
Fix 5: Reinstall or refresh the device in Device Manager
Use this step when the Lexmark device has a warning icon, appears as an unknown scanner, or stopped working after a driver transition.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Imaging devices, and Print queues.
- Right-click the affected Lexmark entry.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the model-specific Lexmark package.
- Reconnect the scanner when the installer requests it.
If the device is network-connected, also select Action > Scan for hardware changes after the restart. If it returns with a warning icon, open Properties > Events and record the event text before attempting another installation.
A 32-bit Lexmark component may be required by a 32-bit scanning application even when Windows is 64-bit. Match the architecture expected by the Lexmark package and the scanning application, not just the architecture printed on the Windows system page.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components if Windows itself is damaged
SFC is not guaranteed to restore dlaa2werr.dll because this file appears to belong to Lexmark rather than the protected Windows component store. Use Windows repair commands when other Windows files or services are also failing.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Lexmark software again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker repair procedure.
If both commands complete successfully but the DLL error remains, return to the Lexmark repair or reinstall steps. Repeating SFC will not normally recreate a vendor file.

- CX735adse delivers performance, security, and ease of use for mid-to-large workgroups at speeds up to 52 pages per mi
Manually repeating DISM and SFC can make it difficult to tell which repair changed the system. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows issues and show what needs attention; the full-version repair is optional, and the Lexmark installer remains the definitive way to restore this application component.
Fix 7: Remove an obsolete startup entry
If the Lexmark device was retired but Windows still displays the error at startup, an old startup entry may be trying to launch software whose files were removed.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Lexmark software.
- If you still use the device, leave it enabled and repair the package.
- If you no longer use the device, disable the entry.
- Uninstall the obsolete Lexmark application from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
Do not delete random registry values or DLL files to suppress the message. Removing the parent application is safer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to do
Do not download an isolated DLL
Random DLL download pages can provide malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible build, or a file with no trustworthy vendor chain of custody. An isolated replacement may also fail because a dependency or registry configuration is missing.
Use the official Lexmark Drivers & Downloads page and select the exact device model instead.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not copy the file into System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not universal storage locations for third-party application DLLs. A 32-bit scanning program may need its files in its own installation directory, while a 64-bit package may use a different path.
Do not run regsvr32 blindly
Do not assume this command repairs the problem:
regsvr32 dlaa2werr.dll
WIA packages are installed through vendor INF files and related configuration. There is no confirmed evidence that this particular error-handler DLL is self-registering or exports DllRegisterServer. Use regsvr32 only if Lexmark specifically documents it for your package.
Do not install a similar model’s driver
A nearby model may use different scanning components, firmware, or architecture. The exact Lexmark model and Windows version must determine the package.

FAQ
Is dlaa2werr.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Lexmark imaging software and the WIA scanning architecture. WIA is part of Windows, but vendor DLLs installed with scanner drivers are not automatically Windows core files.
Can I fix the error by downloading dlaa2werr.dll?
That is not a safe or reliable repair. Reinstall the correct Lexmark driver and scanning package so the file, dependencies, and configuration are restored together.
Does SFC restore dlaa2werr.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while dlaa2werr.dll appears to be a Lexmark application component. Run DISM and SFC only when Windows itself also appears damaged.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhy does the error mention a missing module when the file exists?
A dependency used by the DLL may be missing, blocked, corrupted, or incompatible. Reinstalling the complete Lexmark package is more useful than replacing the named file alone.
Is this related to a game?
There is no verified connection to games, Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. If a game displays the message, inspect the executable and file path to find the application that actually installed or requested the Lexmark component.
What if I no longer use the Lexmark scanner?
Uninstall the obsolete Lexmark software and disable its startup entry. If the error disappears after removal, it was an orphaned startup reference rather than a Windows-wide DLL failure.
