No. A Game Pass subscription does not keep a game playable after it leaves the applicable Game Pass catalog—even if your subscription is active and the game is installed. To keep playing, you generally need to buy a separate copy of the game.
What happens when a game leaves Game Pass?
Game Pass provides access to a changing library; it is not permanent ownership of every game you download. Xbox says access lasts until your subscription is canceled or expires, or until a game leaves the Game Pass library. That means an active subscription alone does not preserve access to a removed title. Xbox’s Game Pass FAQ explains the access limit.

Installing a game does not change that condition. Once the title is no longer included in the applicable catalog, the subscription entitlement no longer lets you launch and play it. You would need another valid license, such as a separately purchased copy.

Xbox’s catalog directs players to buy a departing title to keep playing. Check the listing for the exact game and platform you use before purchasing: the edition and platform need to match the game ecosystem where you want to continue. The catalog advertises member discounts of up to 20%, but that is a general, conditional offer—not a guarantee that every departing game qualifies or that the same discount is available on every listing. Check the current Game Pass catalog and its “Leaving soon” collection for the listing and any current offer.

Check the right catalog before deciding
Game availability can vary over time and by region, plan, and platform, according to Xbox. Look up the title in the catalog for the region, subscription plan, and platform you actually use; an old departure list may no longer reflect current availability. A title marked as leaving for one platform or region is not enough to establish its status for another.
- Confirm the exact title appears in “Leaving soon” for your platform and region.
- Compare the purchase listing’s platform and edition with the version you play.
- Check the current listed price and whether a member discount is shown before departure.
- Decide whether buying it is worthwhile compared with finishing the game before it leaves.
What about your save file?
The Xbox catalog and FAQ describe access to games, but do not establish what happens to saves for a particular title after it leaves. If you plan to buy the game later, check that game’s official support information for save handling and any platform-specific requirements. Do not assume that a save will transfer between platforms or editions.
