What the Genesis Configuration does
Assistant Game Director Vid Rajin describes the Genesis Configuration as “a puzzle box” used “at the centre of things.” In the PlayStation Blog feature, he says it is used both to craft puzzles and to manipulate the world around Aidan. That makes it more than an inventory key: when a room appears blocked, ask what part of the environment might respond to a change in the Configuration.
Realigning a dangerous room
One example places Aidan in a room filled with spikes and separated walkways. The solution involves turning a giant wheel so the walkways realign. The important lesson is the relationship between the device and the room: rotating a mechanism changes the geometry that Aidan must cross. Look for large structures, repeated symbols and routes that seem almost—but not quite—connected before assuming the path is a conventional jump or combat challenge.

Changing an object into a key
Another sequence takes place in a courtyard where gates cannot be opened until a statue’s missing item is retrieved. The Configuration can change a box into the correct shape for use as a key. This establishes a useful rule for exploration: an object that looks like ordinary scenery may become functional after its form is altered. One featured sequence traps Aidan in a room that appears to loop. Progress comes from turning back instead of continuing forward. Rajin explains that “The labyrinth Aidan is trapped in is intertwined with the real world,” and says the environment is trying to make Aidan change perspective and try another approach. If a route repeatedly returns you to the same place, stop treating the loop as a navigation failure. Re-examine the direction you assumed was correct, look for a state change after backtracking and test whether retreating is the intended action.

The game also includes a sliding-picture safe lock. A diagram provides the clue, so the image is part of the combination rather than decoration. Other described challenges include lock-picking and safe-combination puzzles. For these, separate observation from execution: first identify the clue and its order, then manipulate the lock deliberately. If a clue contains a sequence, record it before experimenting so that failed attempts do not erase your understanding of the pattern.

2. Change one property at a time
When several interactions are available, alter one element and observe the result before making another change. A single rotation or shape change may open a route, expose a clue or alter the position of a separate object. Recording each state prevents you from losing track of which action produced progress.
3. Read diagrams as instructions, not decoration
The sliding-picture safe uses a diagram clue. Examine the complete image, its orientation and any sequence implied by the composition before moving pieces. If the picture can be viewed from more than one direction, compare those views rather than forcing a familiar combination.
4. Treat repetition as information
A looping room is not necessarily a bug or a demand to move faster. If the same space returns, compare what is different: your direction, the state of a nearby mechanism, the object you are carrying or the point at which you turned around. The documented example specifically makes turning back meaningful.

5. Separate puzzle logic from control execution
When an idea seems correct but the interaction does not happen, first check whether the object is in the required position and whether the Configuration has the intended form. Only then investigate sensitivity, inversion or the interaction prompt. This avoids mistaking a control problem for an incorrect solution.
