Yes. In Hollow Knight, banishing the Grimm Troupe earns the Banishment achievement on platforms that list it under that name. It is one of two mutually exclusive outcomes for the quest: the other is Ritual, earned by defeating Nightmare King Grimm.
What the Banishment achievement means
The achievement description is “Banish the Grimm Troupe from Hallownest.” It is awarded for choosing Brumm’s route and destroying the Nightmare Lantern—not for completing the Ritual route.
The exact label depends on platform. PC, Xbox, and Switch achievement lists use Banishment. Switch does not have a universal achievement system, so the game presents these as in-game Feats. On PlayStation 4, the trophy list uses Nightmare’s End for completing the Grimm Troupe tale rather than listing Banishment separately. Check your platform’s tracker if the name matters.
How to banish the Grimm Troupe
- Activate the Nightmare Lantern in Howling Cliffs, then speak with Grimm in Dirtmouth to begin the quest.
- Gather the flames while Grimmchild is equipped. After defeating Troupe Master Grimm and advancing to the final flame phase, find Brumm in Deepnest.
- Accept Brumm’s proposal and meet him at Howling Cliffs.
- During that same visit, help Brumm destroy the Nightmare Lantern. Do not leave the lantern room after speaking with him and before breaking the brazier; doing so makes the banishment route unavailable.
Completing the destruction awards Banishment on platforms that use that achievement entry. The route removes Grimmchild. Nymm then appears in Dirtmouth; speak with Nymm to receive Carefree Melody.

Can you still earn Ritual after banishing?
No. Banishment and Ritual are mutually exclusive on a save profile, so choosing Brumm’s route prevents earning Ritual on that profile. To take the Ritual route instead, gather the three final flames, return to Grimm, use the Dream Nail on sleeping Grimm, and defeat Nightmare King Grimm.

Acquire any Unbreakable Charms you want before banishing the troupe. Charms not acquired before banishment become permanently unobtainable on that save.
