Apple Arcade is required only for games that are part of the Apple Arcade catalog. Other games can still be bought or downloaded through the Apple Games app or the App Store, subject to each game’s price, ads, in-app purchases and system requirements.
The important catch is access after cancellation: Apple says you cannot play Apple Arcade games, even ones already downloaded, while your subscription is inactive. Before subscribing, check that the specific titles you want support your device, operating-system version and country or region.

What Apple Arcade changes
Apple Arcade is a subscription catalogue rather than a requirement for gaming on Apple hardware. Apple describes it as unlimited access to more than 200 premium games. The catalogue changes as titles are added or removed, so the number is a current description rather than a permanent library size.

Games included in Arcade are presented without advertising and without in-app purchases. That gives you a different way to pay for games: you pay for the subscription, then access included titles without buying each game or dealing with the monetisation systems used by many separately distributed mobile games. Apple also says Arcade games can be played online or offline, although you normally need to connect periodically so the device can verify your subscription and game availability.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Arcade access can cover iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro. Coverage is not identical across those products. A title may support one device family but not another, and compatibility can depend on hardware, installed software and regional availability.
Games you can play without Apple Arcade
If a game is not an Apple Arcade title, you do not need Arcade to obtain it. Apple says people who do not subscribe, including people in regions where Arcade is unavailable, can buy and download other games from the Apple Games app or the App Store.
Free-to-download games
Many App Store games can be downloaded without an upfront charge. “Free” does not mean every feature is free: the individual publisher may use advertising, in-app purchases, subscriptions or other restrictions. Those terms belong to that game and are separate from Apple Arcade.
Paid games
Some games have a one-time purchase price. Paying for one of these titles gives you the purchase access described on its store page; it does not require an Arcade membership unless the particular game is being obtained through the Arcade catalogue instead.

Games already associated with your Apple account
When you download a non-Arcade game, its availability is governed by the game’s own listing, account and device requirements. Arcade is not needed merely because you are using an Apple device, the Apple Games app or a controller.
When an Apple Arcade subscription is required
For titles in the Arcade catalogue
If the game is identified as an Apple Arcade title, an active subscription is the condition for playing it. The subscription supplies catalogue access; it is not an optional discount layered on top of a separate purchase for that catalogue version.
After you cancel
Downloading an Arcade game before cancellation does not turn it into a permanently owned game. Apple states that, after cancellation, you cannot play any Apple Arcade games, even if they remain downloaded on your device. Restoring the subscription restores the entitlement, provided the title is still available and compatible in your region and on your hardware.

When a title leaves the catalogue
Because the catalogue changes, availability can end even while you remain subscribed. Check the current listing if a game disappears, stops appearing on one of your devices or no longer meets your system version. A separately sold edition, if one exists, has its own store terms; do not assume that an Arcade download automatically converts to that edition.

Which Apple devices are covered?
Apple lists Arcade across five product categories, but “available on Apple devices” is not the same as “available on every Apple device.” Use the game’s page and the device’s software version as the final check.
| Device | What to verify |
|---|---|
| iPhone | Supported iOS version, iPhone hardware and country or region |
| iPad | Supported iPadOS version, iPad model and country or region |
| Mac | Whether that specific Arcade title has a Mac version, plus macOS and Mac hardware requirements |
| Apple TV | Whether the title supports Apple TV, tvOS compatibility and any input requirements |
| Apple Vision Pro | Whether the title offers a compatible visionOS experience and meets the listed hardware and software conditions |
Apple notes that not every Arcade game is available on Mac or Apple TV. The same principle applies across the catalogue: the Arcade label does not promise a build for every product category.
What the subscription includes
- Catalogue access: Apple describes the service as access to 200-plus premium games, with the exact selection changing over time.
- No ads and no in-app purchases in Arcade games: Those are part of Apple’s description of the included catalogue. A non-Arcade game can use a different monetisation model.
- Online and offline play: Apple says Arcade games can be played online or offline. Download the game while connected, and follow any on-device sign-in or verification prompts before relying on it away from a network.
- Family Sharing: One subscription can be shared with up to five other family members through Apple’s Family Sharing system. Each person’s device and the game’s own compatibility still matter.
- Apple One inclusion: Apple Arcade can be included in an Apple One plan. In that case, Arcade access comes from the active Apple One subscription rather than a separate Arcade enrolment.
None of these features changes the availability rules for individual titles. A shared subscription does not make an unsupported Mac, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad or Vision Pro compatible with a game.
Subscription access versus buying games individually
The practical choice is not “gaming versus no gaming.” It is a choice between a changing, shared catalogue and selecting games one at a time.

| Decision factor | Apple Arcade | Individual App Store games |
|---|---|---|
| Selection | Access to the current Arcade catalogue, described by Apple as 200-plus games | Any separately distributed game that is available for your region and device |
| Payment pattern | Recurring subscription access | Usually a one-time purchase, free download, or the individual game’s own subscription and purchase model |
| Monetisation inside the game | Apple describes included Arcade games as ad-free and without in-app purchases | Each game sets its own advertising and in-app-purchase policies |
| Household access | Shareable with up to five other family members through Family Sharing | Controlled by the game’s listing, account and any family-sharing rules that apply to that purchase |
| Multiple Apple devices | Possible across supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Vision Pro versions | Depends on the game’s supported platforms and the purchase’s terms |
Arcade is usually easier to justify when several people in a Family Sharing group want to try many included games, or when avoiding ads and in-game purchases matters more than owning a particular title permanently. Buying individually can be a better fit when you want only a small number of games, need a title outside the catalogue or want access that is not tied to an active subscription.
How to check a game before subscribing
- Find the exact game listing. Open the title in the Apple Games app or App Store on the device you plan to use.
- Identify its distribution. An Arcade designation means an active Arcade entitlement is required. A regular App Store listing may be available through a purchase or download model set by that game.
- Check every target device. If you want to move between iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Vision Pro, look for a supported version on each one rather than assuming the title is universal.
- Read the requirements. Confirm the listed operating-system version, compatible hardware and any regional limitation. An older device can fail the requirement even when a newer device on the same account works.
- Check input support. Apple says a controller icon on a game’s page indicates controller support for that Apple device. The absence of that icon means you should plan to use the available touch, keyboard, mouse, remote or other supported input instead.
- Decide how you will play offline. Download the game while online and test it before travelling or losing connectivity. Offline support is an Apple Arcade feature, but the device still needs the game installed and properly authorised.
Do you need a controller?
No. A Bluetooth game controller is optional, not a requirement for Apple Arcade or for ordinary App Store games. Many games are designed for touch input on iPhone and iPad, while Mac and Apple TV titles may support keyboard, mouse, remote or controller input according to their individual listings.
If you prefer a controller, choose a Bluetooth model that explicitly supports your Apple device and operating-system version. Use the controller icon on the game’s page as the compatibility signal for that title. Controller support can differ by device, so a pad that works with an iPhone version is not automatically guaranteed to work with the Mac or Apple TV version.

- Your subscription becomes inactive at the end of the applicable billing period or access term.
- Arcade games you downloaded remain files on the device for a time, but Apple says you cannot play them without an active subscription.
- Non-Arcade games are unaffected by the Arcade cancellation. Their access continues under their own purchase, download and account terms.
- If you resubscribe, check the catalogue again. A title may have changed availability, device support or regional status since you last played it.
Cancel only the service you intend to cancel. If Arcade access comes through Apple One, changing the Apple One plan can affect Arcade as part of that bundle.

Common access problems and fixes
The game is installed but says a subscription is required
Confirm that the Apple account currently signed in to the device is the account holding Arcade access. If the subscription was cancelled or an Apple One plan changed, the downloaded game will not provide a permanent licence. Restore the active subscription, then reopen the game while connected to the internet.
The game works on iPhone but not Mac or Apple TV
Check the title’s listing for a separate Mac or Apple TV version. Apple explicitly cautions that not every Arcade game is available on those platforms. Also verify macOS or tvOS, hardware generation and regional availability.
The game is unavailable in your country or region
Arcade availability and features vary by country or region. A title or the service itself may not be offered where your Apple account is registered. The App Store’s local listing is the relevant check; do not rely on a listing seen in another region.
Offline play does not work
Reconnect the device, open the game and allow any subscription or account verification to complete. Make sure the game was fully downloaded and that the subscription is still active. If the title has left the catalogue, an offline copy cannot preserve access indefinitely.
A controller is not recognised
Check the game’s controller icon, update the device software if the listing requires a newer version, pair the Bluetooth controller again and test the title’s supported input. A controller problem is separate from whether you subscribe to Arcade.
Who should subscribe?
Arcade is a strong fit when
- You want to sample many premium games rather than buy a few specific titles.
- Your household can use Family Sharing with up to five other family members.
- You prefer the included catalogue’s ad-free, no-in-app-purchase format.
- You regularly switch among supported Apple devices and the games you want are listed for each one.
- You need the option to play included games offline after downloading them.
Buying separately is a better fit when
- You want one or two games that are not in the Arcade catalogue.
- You want access that does not end when a subscription ends.
- You prefer to evaluate each game’s price and monetisation model individually.
- Your main device is not compatible with the Arcade version of the title you want.
In either case, inspect the current store listing before paying. Catalogue membership, device support and regional availability can change, while a game’s own price and monetisation terms are controlled by its publisher.
