No. If your group is playing a Star Wars RPG with its own rules, you do not need Dungeons & Dragons books. You need the rulebook or starter product for the specific Star Wars game your table has chosen. For example, Edge of the Empire and Force and Destiny have their own rules and materials; D&D books are not substitutes for them.
First, find out which Star Wars RPG your group is playing
“Star Wars RPG” can refer to different game lines and editions, so there is no single book list that applies to every table. Ask the organizer for the exact game name and edition before buying or borrowing anything. The examples below cover Fantasy Flight Games and Edge Studio’s Edge of the Empire and Force and Destiny lines.

Fantasy Flight Games’ overview, published February 25, 2013, describes Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, and Force and Destiny as separate, compatible lines, each with its own standalone core rulebook. What to use for Edge of the Empire
For a learn-as-you-go introduction
Edge Studio describes the Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game as “a complete standalone experience for 3-5 novice roleplayers.” Its product page lists a 32-page adventure book, a 48-page rulebook, four character folios, a foldout map, 14 custom dice, and tokens. Edge Studio presents it as a learn-as-you-go adventure, making it a direct starting point for a new group that wants an introductory experience rather than a full campaign book.

For a full campaign
For the full Edge of the Empire game, the relevant book is its Core Rulebook—not a D&D rulebook. In its February 25, 2013 overview, Fantasy Flight Games said that beginning an Edge of the Empire game required a copy of the Core Rulebook, pencils or pens, and character sheets, which it said were in the book or available on its website. That is the publisher’s dated guidance for Edge of the Empire, not a universal supply list for every Star Wars RPG.
What to use for Force and Destiny
Force and Destiny has its own Core Rulebook. Edge Studio calls it the fundamental book and launching point for a campaign, and lists it as a 448-page hardcover containing rules for skill checks, combat, and using the Force. If your group is playing Force and Destiny, that is the line-specific book to ask about—not a D&D book. Edge Studio’s Force and Destiny product page

Do you need special dice?
For Edge of the Empire, custom dice are part of the game’s task-resolution system. The Beginner Game includes 14 custom dice, according to its product page. Fantasy Flight Games’ February 25, 2013 overview says the Edge of the Empire Core Rulebook includes a conversion chart for using standard six-, eight-, and twelve-sided dice if custom dice are unavailable. It also says standard ten-sided dice are used for Critical Hits and Critical Injuries, and recommends two ten-sided dice per player. Those details describe Edge of the Empire as covered by that 2013 article; check with your group for the needs of its particular edition and product.

D&D Beyond has announced a D&D–Star Wars collaboration for the Season of Rebellion, coming in 2027. The announcement says to stay tuned for more details, but does not specify the format, rules, or books players will need. It therefore does not establish that D&D books are required for other Star Wars RPGs, or what a future collaboration will require. Read the D&D Beyond announcement
