Yes. Some decisions from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings carry into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, changing dialogue and quest details. The clearest larger consequence is that sparing Letho can unlock the optional quest “Ghosts of the Past.” You can carry decisions over by importing a save on PC or, on consoles, by answering questions about events in the previous game.
Which Witcher 2 choices carry over?
Witcher 3 recognizes several major decisions, rather than reproducing every branch of Witcher 2. The Official Witcher Wiki’s decision checklist identifies these main carryover points:

- Aryan La Valette’s fate: affects part of the Witcher 3 quest “Broken Flowers.”
- Roche or Iorveth: affects how Roche greets Geralt when they meet.
- The Loc Muinne choice: the available decision depends on your Witcher 2 route: Triss or Saskia on Iorveth’s path, or Triss or Anaïs on Roche’s path. Witcher 3 recognizes the choice in references and route-specific narrative details.
- Síle de Tansarville’s fate: changes dialogue in Witcher 3.
- Whether you spared Letho: sparing him can make “Ghosts of the Past” available. Geralt can reunite with him in that quest, and Letho may later join the defense at Kaer Morhen.
The Roche–Iorveth split creates extensive differences within Witcher 2, including different chapters and quests. Those paths are not recreated wholesale in Witcher 3; their sequel effects are limited to recognized details such as dialogue and quest variations.
How do you carry your choices into Witcher 3?
| Method | Who it applies to | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Import a Witcher 2 save | PC players with an accessible save | GameSpot describes importing the save to reflect major prior decisions. |
| Simulate the save | Console players, or players who want to set decisions themselves | Answer questions about Witcher 2 events. CD PROJEKT RED support says console save import is unavailable and describes simulation as the alternative. |
| Skip simulation | Players who do not want to answer the questions | GameSpot says players can opt out of simulating the earlier decisions when starting a game. |
For the console interview, GameSpot places the questions with commander Morvran Voorhis during the Imperial Audience in Vizima. CD PROJEKT RED’s support guidance is specifically documented in its PlayStation support section; menu implementation can vary, so this should not be read as a claim about every platform’s current interface.

Which method should you use?
- If you are playing on PC and have a Witcher 2 save whose decisions you want reflected, import it.
- If you are on console or do not have the save, answer the simulation questions to choose how Geralt’s past is remembered.
- If you would rather leave the past unspecified, use the option to skip simulation.
The practical difference is access and control: importing uses decisions recorded in a save, while simulation lets you establish them by answering questions.
