Are the updates DLC?
No. Nintendo Support lists Ver. 1.0.4, released July 22, 2026, as the latest Switch update in the update history reviewed. Its notes describe bug fixes, including fixes for rare save-data corruption and a progression issue. That is a software update, not a separately listed DLC pack. Nintendo Switch update history

Is the free demo or Hamster Costume DLC?
No. Nintendo offers a free demo for Living the Dream in which players can create up to three Mii characters. Demo save data carries over to the full game, and completing the demo awards a Hamster Costume. Nintendo also says the costume can be obtained through regular play in the full game, so it is a demo reward and gameplay unlock—not paid DLC. Nintendo’s product page and demo details
What about the original 3DS Tomodachi Life?
The original Tomodachi Life is a Nintendo 3DS game, distinct from Living the Dream. Nintendo Support documents its Ver. 1.1 update, released June 6, 2014, which enhanced gameplay stability and performance. The support record does not identify that update as paid DLC; it should not be treated as proof that every possible historical add-on was impossible. Nintendo 3DS update information
