If you mean a charger for the original Nintendo DS or DS Lite, do not assume it will work; those systems use different adapters. Check the label for the model number rather than relying on the vague name “DS charger.”
Which DS charger do you have?

Nintendo’s US product page lists the same AC adapter as compatible with New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DSi XL, and Nintendo DSi: Nintendo AC Adapter. Nintendo’s Japan support material distinguishes the original DS and DS Lite adapters from the DSi/3DS adapter family: Nintendo Japan: AC adapter compatibility.
How to identify a compatible adapter
Look for the model marking WAP-002, which Nintendo identifies as the AC adapter for 3DS-family systems. The DS-family label alone is not enough to establish compatibility: original DS and DS Lite adapters have their own model designations in Nintendo Japan’s material. Regional labeling can differ, so verify the adapter marking and electrical rating for your location. See Nintendo’s AC adapter information.
Check the regional power rating
Adapters are region-specific. Confirm that the input voltage and plug are suitable for the country where you will use the charger. For example, Nintendo’s North American adapter guidance describes a 110 V, 60-cycle rating; do not assume that rating applies to adapters sold for other regions. If the New 3DS still will not charge
- Verify the adapter. Check that it is a licensed, compatible DSi/3DS-family adapter, such as one marked WAP-002.
- Inspect the connection points. Look for visible damage to the adapter, the console’s charging port, or the charging cradle if you use one.
- Follow Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance. If the adapter and connections appear intact but the console still will not charge, use the applicable steps in Nintendo support and repair information before replacing hardware.
Choosing a replacement
For a replacement, look for a Nintendo 3DS-family AC adapter marked WAP-002 and confirm the plug and electrical rating match your region. Third-party adapters are not automatically unsafe, but Nintendo UK says substitute adapters have not undergone Nintendo’s own testing and quality control, and its manufacturer warranty does not cover damage caused by third-party chargers or power supplies.
