How many people can play locally?
Xbox’s current listing specifies “Xbox local co-op (2-2),” meaning two players can share one console. It does not indicate four-player couch co-op. The listing applies to the original Left 4 Dead: Xbox Store listing for Left 4 Dead.

Does it work on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S?
The game originated on Xbox 360. Xbox’s current US store listing also identifies it as playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Store availability and compatibility can change; these platforms were listed as supported on October 8, 2026. Valve gives the original game’s Xbox 360 release dates as November 18, 2008, in the US and November 21, 2008, worldwide: Valve’s Left 4 Dead page.
Don’t confuse it with Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 is a separate game. Xbox lists two to four local co-op players for the sequel, compared with two for the original. Valve’s statement that the sequel supports split-screen “(Xbox 360 version only)” refers to Left 4 Dead 2, not the original: Xbox Store listing for Left 4 Dead 2 and Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 page.
