Nintendo’s multiplayer setup guide confirms that races have selectable engine classes, and producer Kosuke Yabuki was reported as saying the game’s races were capped at 150cc at the time of his interview. Nintendo’s latest listed update, version 1.8.0, does not announce 200cc.
What engine classes can you choose?
When setting up Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, or VS Race multiplayer, players choose a race class. Nintendo’s multiplayer instructions show 50cc and 100cc as examples; those examples are not presented as a complete list of classes.
For the upper limit, Nintendo Life reported in June 2025 that producer Kosuke Yabuki said Mario Kart World had no class above 150cc at the time of his interview. That is the evidence for describing 150cc as the reported ceiling, rather than treating Nintendo’s example classes as the full lineup.
Could 200cc be added later?
Yabuki did not confirm a future 200cc class. In the interview comment reported by Nintendo Life, he said: “Some players are really happy with the addition of high difficulty modes like this. However, does that mean we’re going to consider adding engine sizes that are larger than 150cc to Mario Kart World? I’m afraid I can’t say just yet.” His answer left the possibility undecided; it was not an announcement or release plan.

Does the latest update add 200cc?
Nintendo’s Mario Kart World update history lists version 1.8.0, released September 9, 2026. The changes listed for that update do not announce a 200cc class. This describes the official history available on October 8, 2026; later updates could change the available settings.
Why do players expect 200cc?
Mario Kart 8 introduced 200cc on Wii U as a free update, according to Nintendo Life’s report. That precedent explains the comparison, but it does not establish that Mario Kart World will receive the same class. Mario Kart World is a Nintendo Switch 2 game, and this question concerns its race settings—not a controller or console setting. Nintendo’s game announcement describes its modes, including Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, Battle Mode, and Free Roam.
