What did the 12-month claim actually mean?
Insider Gaming reported on August 8, 2025, that the next 12 months of content had been prepared, while new content was still revealed season by season to retain freshness and surprise. Guangguang’s comments described a pipeline already in motion: some characters being worked on were intended to arrive about a year later. How long does it take to make a Marvel Rivals character?
Guangguang said it takes “about a year” to bring a new character into the game, as quoted by Insider Gaming. The approximate timeline includes multiple kinds of work: gameplay design, concept art, modeling, animation, and voice acting. It should not be read as a precise production rule for every hero; the report gives an estimate, not a standardized schedule or an industry-wide benchmark.
Why the lead time is more than modeling a hero
A character has to be developed as both a playable kit and a visual performance. Which characters are coming next?
The cited reporting did not disclose the specific lineup. Deadpool was mentioned as a popular fan request, but Guangguang did not confirm when—or whether—he was scheduled to arrive. A requested character, rumor, or plausible fit is not evidence of a confirmed release slot.
For readers looking for an official next-hero list, the important distinction is that Marvel Rivals shared seasonal reveals rather than a public annual character calendar. The 12-month statement is evidence of advance preparation, not a way to infer which hero is next.

How are future character choices planned?
A March 2026 interview added context on collaboration: creative director Guangguang said NetEase Games and Marvel Games discuss which heroes join in which seasons. The interviewer reported that the 2026 roadmap had been finalized in 2025 and that work on the 2027 roadmap was underway at the time of the interview. Those statements show planning further ahead than a single season, but they still do not identify a complete unreleased roster or establish the current status of any particular character.
