Is Donkey Kong Bananza worth playing?
The strong aggregate is backed by reviews that single out the game’s destructive exploration. Nintendo Life reviewer Jim Norman wrote on July 16, 2025, that the ability to tear up terrain and solve puzzles opened the game into a more chaotic, destructive style of play after an opening that recalled familiar 3D-platforming ideas. Nintendo describes a vast underground world that Donkey Kong and Pauline explore by smashing walls, carving tunnels, and opening new areas through destruction. Rather than treating the environment as fixed scenery, the game makes reshaping it a central way to move forward and discover more of the world. That design helps explain why critics emphasize exploration and playful experimentation. If you want a story-led experience above all else, reviews suggest the simple setup and comparatively modest story emphasis may not be the main draw. The review praise is more focused on what you can do with the terrain.

Platform, co-op, and assistance options
Donkey Kong Bananza is a Nintendo Switch 2 game released July 17, 2025. Nintendo UK also identifies it as a Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo UK’s listing confirms the platform and release date.
- Two-player co-op: Nintendo says two players can play on one system. One controls Donkey Kong; the other plays Pauline, who rides on DK’s shoulder and uses vocal blasts.
- Assist Mode: Nintendo lists path guidance, aim assist, reduced damage, and regenerating health. These options can make the adventure more approachable for players who want help with navigation or combat.
These features may matter as much as the aggregate score when deciding whether the game suits you: it offers a shared-play option and built-in assistance alongside its focus on exploration and destruction.
