This route covers the main story objective; optional Banandium Gems may require a return trip.
Choose the story route or a completion run
Lagoon Layer spans sublayers 100, 101, and 102. Nintendo Life’s 2025 guide counts 56 Banandium Gems across the region, but not all are available during the first story pass: some are gated behind the main objective or post-credit content. Gems 41–50 are listed as post-credit collectibles.
For story progress, follow the route below in order. If you are collecting everything, return after clearing the main objective and completing the post-credit storyline, and use a dedicated collectible guide to track the numbered gems: Nintendo Life’s Lagoon Layer Banandium Gem guide.
Sublayer 100: Ape Cape
Learn to use Boom Rock
Follow the opening path through Ape Cape and take on its first challenge. When Boom Rock is introduced, tear off a chunk and throw it at concrete barriers to clear the way or expose items and routes. Keep using it against concrete-covered obstacles and enemies.

Open the route to sublayer 101
Near the Void Stake, defeat the concrete-shelled Crockoid. Use the key it releases to remove the stake’s protection, then punch the Void Stake to drop into sublayer 101.
Sublayer 101: Raise the water and reach the Kong Elder
Start the water-storage system
Follow the village route and speak with the Salvager Monkey. The water-storage system is blocked by concrete pillars. Climb to the first pillar and throw a Boom Rock chunk at it; destroying it raises the water level.

Continue through the climbing routes
Use the metal climbing and hanging routes to proceed. Break through the concrete walls with Boom Rock and destroy the next concrete pillar as you advance toward Kong Elder’s Court.
Recover the Ancient Record
At Kong Elder’s Court, the Ancient Record is out of reach while the water is too low. Find and destroy the final concrete pillar. With the water restored, cross the bridge, pick up the Ancient Record, and place it beside the Kong Elder.

Sublayer 102: Defeat Peekabruiser
Cross Chimpy Channel
Continue through Chimpy Channel, watching for its moving-platform hazards, until you reach the Peekabruiser encounter.
Expose and hit the core
Game8’s walkthrough recommends using Kong Bananza form against the boss’s armor or the enemies protecting it. When Peekabruiser’s core is exposed, hit it before it can regenerate. After defeating the boss, punch the Void Stake to open the onward route.

What this route does—and does not—cover
This is the main progression route through Lagoon Layer, not a 100% collectible walkthrough. Nintendo Life’s guide separates gem locations by sublayer and identifies collectibles that require the main objective or post-credit progress. Use it for the return sweep rather than delaying the story route to search for every gem.
