DOOM: The Dark Ages has secrets across its campaign, but the available chapter guides report different totals depending on whether they count secret areas separately from collectibles. PowerPyx reports 163 secrets and 142 collectibles, while PC Gamer lists chapter-by-chapter secret counts and notes exceptions. This guide explains what those figures cover, how to avoid locking yourself out of a detour, and where to find chapter-organized walkthroughs for exact locations.
How many secrets are in DOOM: The Dark Ages?
PowerPyx’s 100% completion guide, dated May 12, 2025, reports 163 secrets and 142 collectibles for the game. It also lists 48 mission challenges and 6,557 Gold. These are the guide’s published totals, not an independently audited count.

The categories are not interchangeable. PowerPyx lists collectibles such as Codex lore pages, demon toys, Rubies, Demonic Essences, Wraithstones, and weapon skins separately from its secret count. PC Gamer’s chapter guide, last updated May 19, 2025, describes some missions as having no secrets. For example, PowerPyx marks Barrier Core (Chapter 3) and Final Battle (Chapter 21) as having no collectibles; PC Gamer identifies Barrier Core and From Beyond (Chapter 13) as exceptions without secrets. The sources’ labels and coverage differ, so do not treat these statements as a single shared tally.

How to find secrets without missing them
Bethesda’s exploration guide, published May 16, 2025, recommends checking the surroundings and using the AutoMap to find objectives, caches, and secret areas still left to discover. A secret may be a puzzle-locked room or a reward tucked away in a corner rather than an obvious branch.

- Inspect the AutoMap as you explore. Look for unexplored caches and secret areas before leaving a section.
- Follow environmental cues. Green nodes and superheated metal can indicate how to proceed through a route or puzzle.
- Use the Shield Saw. Its Charge and Throw abilities can move objects or operate gates that open a path.
- Check before crossing a point of no return. Bethesda says the marked points prevent returning without restarting the level. Clear nearby unexplored areas before advancing.
What secrets and collectibles can reward
Bethesda identifies several possible finds: Life Sigils, which grant extra lives; Gold Chests, Rubies, and Wraithstones, which are resources; and Codex Entries, character toys, and weapon-skin cosmetics. Gold, Rubies, and Wraithstones can be spent at Sentinel Shrines to upgrade guns, the Shield Saw, and melee attacks.
PowerPyx’s guide reports 26 Codex lore pages, 24 demon toys, 38 Rubies (34 collected in the campaign plus 4 from mission challenge rewards), 32 Demonic Essences, 11 Wraithstones, and 11 weapon skins. Those totals are guide-reported categories for its 2025 guide, not a promise that every item is found in a secret area.

Can you return for missed secrets?
PowerPyx reports that missed collectibles can be obtained with Chapter Select after finishing the story. Its guide also says items become marked as the player approaches and collected items receive a green checkmark on the map. Treat these as the walkthrough’s reported behavior; the cited material does not establish that every detail is guaranteed across all game updates and platforms.
