Is The Veilguard Character Creator free?
Yes. EA offers the Character Creator as a free, standalone experience, so you do not need to own Dragon Age: The Veilguard to design a Rook. Creating a character does not grant access to the full game; the adventure is a separate purchase.
Where can you download it?
Start at EA’s Character Creator download page and choose the store for your platform. EA lists routes for the EA app on Windows, Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, Steam, and Epic Games. Exact store access may vary by region.
The full game launched on October 31, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Check the relevant platform store for the current listing and availability in your region.

Can you transfer your Rook into the full game?
Yes, if you launch the full game on the same platform where you created the character. EA and the Xbox and PlayStation store listings specify this same-platform condition. The available information does not promise a transfer between different platforms or storefront accounts, so create your Rook on the platform where you plan to play.
When did the standalone creator launch?
BioWare released the standalone Character Creator with Patch 4 on December 4, 2024, for Dragon Age Day. “Now available” is not a new 2026 launch: the creator remains offered as a free experience on EA’s download page.

Should you create your character before an EA Play trial?
In a December 10, 2024 post, BioWare recommended making a Rook with the standalone tool before starting an EA Play trial, so the timed trial could be spent on the game. That post described a five-hour trial at the time; it is historical guidance, not confirmation of a current trial length or subscription offer. Check EA Play’s current terms before relying on a trial.
