If Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not launch or keeps crashing, start by identifying your platform and when the failure happens. On PC, check EA’s system requirements, repair the installed game files, then test the EA app overlay and background software. These are general troubleshooting steps from EA, not guaranteed fixes for every Veilguard crash. PlayStation and Xbox players should use EA’s platform-specific support route rather than Windows instructions.
First, identify the platform and failure point
The right steps depend on whether you play on Windows, PlayStation, or Xbox. Note whether the game fails before a window appears, during startup or loading, or after play has begun. Record any exact error message. EA’s crashing and freezing support hub provides separate routes for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox; console procedures should not be inferred from PC guidance.

Check whether your PC meets the requirements
EA lists these Windows PC requirements for Dragon Age: The Veilguard:

These are compatibility specifications, not a diagnosis of why your game is failing. EA’s requirements also specify AGESA 1207 or newer for the listed AMD AM4 CPU configurations. Check the official PC requirements if you need the full configuration details. Steam describes storage as “SSD Preferred, HDD Supported” and “SSD Required” for the relevant configurations on its store page. An SSD may be appropriate if your setup does not meet those storage specifications, but the requirement does not establish that buying one will fix a crash; confirm drive and system compatibility before buying.

EA says an online connection is not required to play on PC. Do not assume that every launch problem is a connectivity issue; investigate the connection if the error itself points to one.
Try these PC troubleshooting steps in order
- Check free space and record when it fails. Compare your hardware and Windows installation with the requirements above, confirm the game has room for its 100 GB storage requirement, and note the failure stage and error text.
- Repair the game files. In the EA app, open Library, open the game tile’s menu, and select Repair. EA recommends file repair when a game does not load. If you installed through another storefront, use its supported file-verification or repair feature; menu labels vary.
- Temporarily disable the EA app overlay, if you use it. EA notes that the in-game overlay can sometimes cause a game to crash. Turn it off as a diagnostic test, then retry. If it makes no difference, you can restore the overlay.
- Close background applications. Retry with unnecessary apps closed. If the issue continues, EA recommends a Windows clean boot to check whether background tasks are interfering. A clean boot is a diagnostic step; it can help isolate software conflicts but does not identify a specific conflicting app on its own.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver. EA’s PC guidance recommends checking Windows and GPU updates, and updating the graphics driver for crashes or graphics problems. Restart after installing updates, then test the game again.
- If the crash happens during play, test frame pacing. EA suggests capping the frame rate or enabling V-Sync so the game’s frame rate matches the display’s refresh rate. This is general crash-and-freeze advice, not a confirmed fix for every launch failure.
EA’s general instructions for games that will not load cover repair and the overlay, while its crashing or freezing guidance covers clean boot and frame-rate options. Software interfaces and driver guidance can change, so follow the current linked instructions for your version of Windows and the EA app.

Console players: use the matching EA support route
For a PlayStation or Xbox crash or freeze, choose the corresponding platform option in EA’s support hub. The available guidance here does not establish current console menu steps, so do not apply Windows repair instructions or assume a particular cache-clear, reinstall, or storage-reset procedure.

If the game still fails after the relevant checks, EA recommends running DxDiag and attaching the report to an EA support case or forum post. Its PC graphics troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking minimum requirements and updating the graphics driver.
