There is no single best weapon in Dragon’s Dogma 2: weapon types are vocation-specific, and a high listed attack value does not make a sword comparable to a staff or a magickal bow. This list covers useful choices from early progression through the endgame, ranking them by vocation fit, combat utility and how practical they are to obtain—not by a universal stat total. Weapon stats and shop inventories can vary with game updates and progression, so check the linked item entries for current details.
How to read this list
Each pick is judged within its weapon type and vocation. Strength, magick, damage type, elemental properties, special effects and acquisition timing all matter; weight is included only where a cited source establishes it. The order is an editorial blend of practical value and late-game potential, not a claim that the first weapon listed is objectively stronger than every other weapon.
Fighters use swords and shields, Thieves use daggers, Mages use staves, Warriors use greatswords and hammers, Sorcerers use archistaves, Magick Archers use magickal bows, Mystic Spearhands use duospears, and Tricksters use censers. Warfarer can access weapon types from other vocations. Confirm current vocation and equipment details in the official online manual and the relevant weapon database.
15 strong weapon choices in Dragon’s Dogma 2
| Pick | Weapon and vocation | Why it earns a place | Notable profile or effect | When and where to get it | Caveat or alternative |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dragon’s Dogma — Fighter sword | A late-game sword with a distinctive payoff for maintaining pressure in a fight. | Kiranico describes its power increasing through consecutive strikes without taking damage. Exact attribute values are listed in the item entry. | Endgame; consult the item entry for current acquisition details. | The effect rewards uninterrupted offense; it is less dependable if you often need to disengage or take hits. |
| 2 | Dragon’s Bite — Warrior greatsword | A heavy weapon choice for Warriors focused on powerful physical blows and knockdowns. | Greatswords suit charged, deliberate attacks; verify current strength and knockdown values in the item entry. | Late progression; consult the current weapon listing for its source. | Its slow, committed attacks are not a substitute for a faster weapon against mobile enemies. |
| 3 | Dragon’s Wit — Sorcerer archistaff | A late-game option for a vocation whose damage plan centers on powerful spells. | Archistaff; compare its magick value with other Sorcerer options rather than with physical weapons. | Late progression; acquisition details should be checked against the current item listing. | Its value depends on spell use and does not provide a direct melee analogue to a Fighter sword. |
| 4 | Dragon’s Vein — Thief daggers | A high-end pair for Thieves who rely on speed, positioning and repeated attacks. | Daggers; check the listing for current strength and any special properties. | Endgame; see the weapon entry for the current source. | Thief damage depends substantially on execution and positioning, not just the weapon’s listed attack. |
| 5 | Dragon’s Rancor — Magick Archer magickal bow | A late-game pick for ranged attacks that draw on magick. | Magickal bow; assess its magick profile against the skills and targets you use. | Late progression; check the database entry for current availability. | Not interchangeable with a physical bow or a Sorcerer’s archistaff. |
| 6 | Dragon’s Feste — Mystic Spearhand duospear | A strong endgame candidate for Mystic Spearhand’s mixed close-range combat. | Duospear; consult the entry for exact strength, magick and special attributes. | Endgame; verify acquisition from the current item listing. | Only relevant if you play Mystic Spearhand or use Warfarer with the appropriate setup. |
| 7 | Dragon’s Delusion — Trickster censer | A vocation-specific endgame pick for players building around Trickster’s support and battlefield-control role. | Censer; its usefulness is not captured by comparing physical attack totals alone. | Late progression; check the item entry for its source. | Trickster’s utility-focused role differs from a straightforward damage vocation. |
| 8 | Dragon’s Breath — Mage staff | A late-game staff candidate for Mages, whose equipment should be compared by magick and role. | Staff; check the database for exact values and any listed properties. | Late progression; current acquisition is not stated in the cited guide material. | Mages and Sorcerers use different weapon types; an archistaff is not an alternative staff for this vocation. |
| 9 | Molten Fury — Warrior hammer | A blunt-damage option for Warriors when a hammer suits the encounter better than a greatsword. | Hammer; blunt damage distinguishes its use from a slashing greatsword. Confirm exact attributes in the listing. | Progression-to-late-game choice; consult current item details for location and availability. | Do not assume the weapon is superior to a greatsword in every matchup. |
| 10 | Medusan Spellbow — Magick Archer magickal bow | A distinct alternative for Magick Archers where its special utility better fits the player’s objective. | Magickal bow with a notable special-effect profile; confirm its exact effect and conditions in the item entry. | Obtainable during progression; current location and requirements should be checked before setting out. | A special effect can be more situational than a straightforward late-game damage upgrade. |
| 11 | Dead Ringer — Mystic Spearhand duospear | A useful alternative for Mystic Spearhand before or alongside the final endgame choice. | Duospear; compare its strength and magick against the skills you use. | Progression-stage choice; check the item listing for current acquisition details. | Its place is vocation-specific, so it should not be ranked directly against a staff or sword. |
| 12 | Chained Darkness — Thief daggers | A practical Thief option to consider during progression rather than waiting for a final-tier weapon. | Daggers; exact attributes and any additional properties are in the item entry. | Progression-stage; verify current shop or world availability in the database. | Later options may better suit an endgame build. |
| 13 | Solar Neve — Mage staff | A Mage alternative that gives players a vocation-matched option before or beyond a single endgame target. | Staff; assess its magick and listed properties against the spells you favor. | Progression-stage; consult the current item listing for where it appears. | Exact comparative stats are not established in the cited guide summary. |
| 14 | Flamberge — Fighter sword | A Fighter progression pick, useful when you want a vocation-matched sword without treating the endgame weapon as the only worthwhile choice. | Sword; check the weapon entry for its precise strength and other attributes. | Available during progression; confirm current source and timing in the listing. | Compare it with other swords for your current stage, not with weapons from unrelated vocations. |
| 15 | Riflebearer — Fighter sword | A further Fighter option for players comparing swords by availability and current build needs. | Sword; exact attribute values and any special effect should be checked in the item database. | Progression-stage; current acquisition details are in the weapon entry. | The cited guide material does not establish an objective ranking against other swords. |
Choose by vocation and stage, not by a cross-type stat race
For a first playthrough
Use a weapon that matches the vocation you are actively playing and that you can actually acquire at your current point in the story. A reachable upgrade can be more useful than an endgame weapon that requires substantial detours or progression. When comparing two weapons of the same type, check their strength or magick, damage properties and any special effect in the weapon database.

For endgame builds
Prioritize the damage profile and effect that support your skills and intended role. For example, the Fighter sword Dragon’s Dogma’s consecutive-strike effect matters only if you can sustain attacks without taking damage. A Trickster censer’s usefulness belongs to a different comparison than a Warrior hammer’s attack value.
For Warfarer
Warfarer’s access to multiple weapon types makes cross-vocation choices relevant, but each weapon still has its own role and vocation context. Build around the weapons and skills you intend to use rather than assuming that carrying more types automatically improves performance.
