To start Feast of Deception, meet Captain Brant at the Stardrop Inn in Vernworth at night after completing An Unsettling Encounter. Equip both the Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches, accept Brant’s plan, then advance time and speak with him again. Before you proceed, finish side quests you care about: PowerPyx reports that The Nameless Village and The Arisen Shadow become unavailable after advancing the coronation sequence.
How to start Feast of Deception
- Go to the Stardrop Inn at night. The walkthrough identifies An Unsettling Encounter as the prerequisite. If it is daytime, speak with the barkeeper and pass time until night. Captain Brant is toward the back of the inn. PowerPyx’s walkthrough gives this trigger.
- Equip both pieces of formal clothing. Wear the Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches. A free Courtly Set is upstairs in the Comptroller’s Home in Vernworth’s Noble Quarter.
- Speak with Brant and accept the plan. Exhaust the new dialogue options to begin the quest.
- Advance time, then return to Brant. Speak with the innkeeper to pass time, then choose “Tell me of the coronation” when speaking to Brant again.
Where to find Courtly Breeches
If you are missing the breeches, check homes in Vernworth’s Noble Quarter for additional pairs or buy them from a Vernworth merchant. These are alternatives to retrieving the free set from the Comptroller’s Home, as noted in PowerPyx’s guide and its reader response.

What to finish before advancing
The game warns that other business may be affected. PowerPyx specifically reports that The Nameless Village and The Arisen Shadow become unavailable once you advance the sequence. Its guide does not establish a complete list of affected quests, so treat those two as named examples rather than an exhaustive inventory. Review your active and unfinished quests before returning to Brant; the walkthrough says free roaming remains possible afterward.
What happens next and rewards
When the coronation sequence begins, the Pawn becomes weakened as the party attempts to enter the hall, and the group retreats; PowerPyx says this completes Feast of Deception. Its reward list includes a Portcrystal and a Beastren Border Entry Permit. A separate Dragon’s Dogma Wiki search-result listing also names a Portcrystal but gives a permit variant as Border Permit or Beastren Entry Permit, and lists 5,000 XP. Because the permit details differ between these listings, do not assume a specific permit variant from the reward names alone. The next quest is Nation of the Lambent Flame, as listed by the Dragon’s Dogma 2 quests guide.

Prerequisite note
PowerPyx names An Unsettling Encounter as the prerequisite. A Dragon’s Dogma Wiki search-result extract lists a longer set of completed Brant quests—Disa’s Plot, Monster Culling, The Caged Magistrate, The Nameless Village and The Stolen Throne—but does not clarify how that list relates to unlocking this quest. Use the direct trigger above; the available listings do not establish that the longer set is mandatory.
