After that, open an appearance-edit service, choose a color control and cycle to the newly unlocked palette. Buying dye alone is not enough, and the colors do not recolor weapons or armor.
How to use dye in Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Reach Bakbattahl. Alexia’s stall is near the Bakbattahl Pawn Guild. Bakbattahl is in Battahl, so this generally means progressing into the region; an alternate route through Guerco Cavern is described by Gamer Guides, but it is a hazardous detour for an underprepared character.
- Buy the colors you want from Alexia. Gamer Guides lists Red, Green, Blue, Yellow and Purple Dye at 500 Rift Currency (RC) each. These are unlock items, not consumables you apply directly to your character or equipment.
- Register the dyes with Mettefere. Visit Mettefere’s Cosmetics in Bakbattahl and speak to Mettefere. This handover is the step that makes purchased palettes available for appearance editing.
- Open an appearance-edit service. At Mettefere’s Cosmetics, choose an editing option that covers the feature you want to change. The service prices listed by Gamer Guides are 10,000 gold for Customize Hairstyle, Adjust Makeup, or Give Markings, and 25,000 gold for Change Multiple.
- Choose a color and cycle palettes. In the relevant appearance menu, select a color control and switch palettes until you reach the newly unlocked dye colors. Gamer Guides gives L1/R1 as the PlayStation palette-cycling controls; button prompts can differ on other platforms.
The 500 RC charge is for each dye unlock; appearance-editing services have separate gold costs. Those prices and interface details are reported by a 2024 guide and may change with later game updates.

Where to buy and register dyes
Alexia sells the five listed dye unlocks at a stall near the Bakbattahl Pawn Guild. Mettefere’s Cosmetics, also in Bakbattahl, is where you register them and access appearance edits. Gamer Guides’ dye instructions identify these as separate steps.
Clovis’s Barberie in Vernworth is not the place to register or use these dyes. If you have bought colors but cannot find them at Clovis’s, go to Bakbattahl and speak with Mettefere instead.

What the dye palettes can change
PC Gamer reports that the additional palettes can be used for character features including skin, hair, eyes, teeth, makeup and tattoos for the Arisen and main Pawn. The color controls vary with the selected editing category, so a palette or option available for one feature may not appear identically for another.
Dyes do not recolor armor or weapons; PC Gamer’s guide says gear dyeing is not a feature. The unlocks expand character customization colors rather than adding an equipment-color system.

Using colors when starting a new game
PC Gamer’s 2024 guide also reports that extra palettes can appear in the character creator when starting a new game. It describes a separate Battahli Colors palette at Mettefere’s Cosmetics that does not require purchased dyes and can be used for hair, makeup and tattoos. These details come from a 2024 guide, not a current official manual, so patch-level availability is not established here.

Choose a focused service when you only need to edit the listed feature; Change Multiple is the broader service described by that guide. Art of Metamorphosis is a separate full-appearance option, not a way to buy dye.
