What is Dune: Awakening?
Dune: Awakening is a survival adventure with open-world exploration, crafting, building, and RPG elements. Set on Arrakis and inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune and the related film franchise, it tells an alternate story rather than retelling the novels’ plot. Can you play Dune: Awakening solo?
Yes. The September 22, 2026 update added full solo play: the story, open world, and Deep Desert endgame can all be played alone. Solo endgame still includes faction competition, which Funcom says is simulated rather than removed. The same update added customizable gameplay settings, including options affecting resource harvesting, experience gain, and death penalties. Bandai Namco launch announcement
Is Dune: Awakening PvP-only?
No. Multiplayer players can choose PvE throughout the game. The Deep Desert has separate PvE and PvP instances: PvP offers greater risk and rewards, but it is optional. This makes the game available as a solo experience, a cooperative PvE experience, or a riskier PvP experience, depending on how you want to play. Bandai Namco launch announcement

What changed in the September 2026 update?
The update concluded Book One and brought the accumulated PC additions and enhancements to the PS5 and Xbox releases. Funcom also lists improvements to progression, combat, encounters, and optimization. Level Infinite’s September update announcement
Endgame and progression
Endgame progression was rebuilt around missions and the Atreides or Harkonnen factions. The game also added Augmentations and Specializations progression systems.
World and combat
Other additions include maps, dungeons, weapons, and dynamic encounters, alongside refined combat—particularly melee—and optimization work. These are publisher-described changes; the announcements do not provide independent performance benchmarks.

Which platforms is it on?
The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version launched in 2025; the console versions launched September 22, 2026. Xbox Play Anywhere support carries progression across Xbox console, Windows Store, ROG Xbox Ally, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The publisher previously confirmed cross-play was planned for after launch, but that announcement does not establish whether cross-play has since shipped. Check the latest official patch notes for its current status.
PS5 graphics modes
In a July 2, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Funcom specified the following PS5 modes. These are developer-published specifications, not independent performance measurements. Both systems use upscaled 4K in the listed modes. PlayStation Blog

What editions and DLC are available?
The base game is separate from the optional Filmic Archive DLC, which launched across platforms on September 22, 2026. Its contents include film-inspired clothing and armor, 73 Sardaukar building pieces, decorative items, weapons, and emotes. The launch announcement listed the DLC at $9.99 at publication; that is a dated price, not a guarantee of its current cost. Check the relevant storefront for today’s price and contents. Xbox Wire’s June 2026 edition listing described Deluxe as including a season pass for the first four DLCs and Sardaukar armor. Ultimate was listed with four named DLCs, cosmetic and building items, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack. Is there a physical PS5 edition?
Yes. A physical PS5 edition is available through retail and online distribution, though stock and edition details depend on region. Bandai Namco identifies distribution partners as Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe for EMEA, Australia, and New Zealand; Solutions 2 GO for the Americas; and Spike Chunsoft for Japan. The official page describes a Day 1 Edition and says its limited-time physical-purchase bonus included a Terrarium of Muad’Dib and sunset dye. That bonus was time-limited; check the retailer’s current listing rather than assuming it is still included. Official game page
