dvaaudiodsp.dll is an Adobe application component, not a Windows system DLL, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Adobe app that owns it. Do not download dvaaudiodsp.dll from a random DLL site or copy it into System32; that often leaves the damaged Adobe installation and its dependencies unresolved.
What this file actually does
Adobe crash reports place dvaaudiodsp.dll inside Adobe media-processing components. It has appeared in installations of Adobe Audition, After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere-related products, and Photoshop Elements.

The filename is associated with Adobe’s Dynamic Link or DVA components. Depending on the Adobe product and release, reports may identify it as dynamiclinkmediaserver, photoshopdva, or Adobe DVA. Different Adobe applications and versions can contain separate copies.
A normal location is inside the affected application’s own folder, such as:

The exact folder depends on the installed Adobe product and version. It should not normally be in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Windows normally searches an unpackaged application’s directory before the Windows system directory when loading private application DLLs. See Microsoft’s documentation on DLL search order.
Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely explanation | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| “dvaaudiodsp.dll is missing” | An Adobe update or installation did not place the file correctly | Update or reinstall the affected Adobe app |
| “The specified module could not be found” | The DLL may be missing, or a dependency required by it may be missing | Repair the complete Adobe installation |
| The app crashes while opening | The DLL is in the crash path, but a plug-in, driver, preference, or media component may be responsible | Update the app and test without third-party plug-ins |
| “Not designed to run on Windows” | The file may be damaged, incompatible, blocked, or replaced | Remove the installation and reinstall from Adobe |
| The file exists but will not load | A dependency, permission, architecture, or security product may be interfering | Check antivirus history and repair the application |
| The problem began after security software acted | Microsoft Defender or another antivirus may have quarantined the file | Verify the alert and reinstall the Adobe app |
| The error occurs after copying a DLL | The replacement may be the wrong build or architecture | Remove the copied file and reinstall the owning app |
Fix dvaaudiodsp.dll errors
1. Identify the Adobe application named by the error
Read the complete error window first. It may mention Audition, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, or another Adobe product.
If the message does not name the application:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Processes or Details.
- Look for the Adobe application that fails.
- Right-click it and choose Open file location, if available.
- Check the Adobe folder containing the application.
You can also search File Explorer for dvaaudiodsp.dll. A result inside an Adobe product directory is expected. A copy in a random download folder, a temporary folder, or a system directory deserves extra caution.
Repair the Adobe product named in the error, not whichever copy of the DLL is easiest to find.
2. Update the affected Adobe app
An interrupted or partially applied Adobe update is a common reason for a missing private DLL.
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.
- Select Apps.
- Open Updates.
- Install the update for the affected Adobe product.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the Adobe app again.
If the update is not shown, select the three-dot menu beside the app and choose Check for updates. Test the application after the update finishes.
If the Adobe app opens but crashes during a particular task, update it before changing Windows components. A newer application build may also include fixes for media processing, plug-ins, and GPU compatibility.
3. Reinstall the Adobe application from Creative Cloud
If updating does not restore the file, reinstall the complete application. This is safer than replacing one DLL because the installer also restores related files and dependencies.

- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select Apps.
- Find the affected Adobe application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Keep preferences and plug-ins when offered if you need them, but back up important settings first.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Select Install beside the Adobe application.
- Launch the application before adding third-party plug-ins.
Save project files, custom presets, plug-ins, and installers before using any Adobe cleanup utility. A cleanup process can remove older Adobe installations and related configuration. Use Adobe’s official Creative Cloud installer rather than a standalone DLL source.
If Creative Cloud itself cannot complete the installation, repair or reinstall the Creative Cloud desktop app through Adobe’s official installation process. Do not substitute a DLL downloaded from the internet.
4. Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine an Adobe DLL. Restore it only when you have confirmed that the file belongs to the Adobe installation and the detection is a false positive.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand the alert associated with the Adobe installation.
- Check the detected file path and action.
- If the path is unexpected or the alert is a serious threat, do not restore the file.
- If the file is clearly inside the correct Adobe folder and Adobe confirms it as safe, follow the available restore or allow options.
- Reinstall the Adobe app afterward so the file comes from Adobe’s installer.
- Update security definitions and run another scan.
Microsoft explains Protection History and restoration risks in its Windows Security Protection History guidance.
If antivirus repeatedly removes the file, do not keep restoring copies manually. Investigate the detection, update Adobe and Windows, and contact Adobe Support or your security vendor if the detection continues.
5. Check whether the file is present but a dependency is missing
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by dvaaudiodsp.dll.

- Right-click the Adobe shortcut and select Open file location.
- Locate the Adobe product directory.
- Search that directory for
dvaaudiodsp.dll. - If it exists, note its full path rather than copying it elsewhere.
- Try launching the Adobe app after reinstalling or updating it.
- Check whether the error names another file, such as a Microsoft runtime DLL.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET merely because an Adobe DLL error appeared. Install a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable only when the message identifies a missing Microsoft runtime such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll. There is no established evidence that dvaaudiodsp.dll itself is a Windows, DirectX, .NET, or standalone Visual C++ file.
6. Check 64-bit compatibility
The documented examples of this Adobe component are 64-bit. A filename alone does not establish that two DLLs are interchangeable.
Confirm that:
- The Adobe application is supported on your Windows edition and architecture.
- You are repairing the correct Adobe product and version.
- You are not mixing files from different Adobe releases.
- You have not copied a 32-bit replacement into a 64-bit Adobe installation, or the reverse.
Use the Adobe application’s supported system requirements and install the build supplied for that product. Do not choose the “highest” DLL version from an unrelated source.

7. Test without third-party plug-ins
A crash stack containing dvaaudiodsp.dll does not prove that the DLL caused the crash. Audio effects, video plug-ins, GPU drivers, preferences, or a particular media file can trigger a failure while Adobe code is processing the request.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Try these steps:
- Update or temporarily remove recently installed Adobe plug-ins.
- Start the Adobe application with third-party plug-ins disabled if the product provides that option.
- Reset application preferences using the product’s supported reset method.
- Test with a new blank project.
- Test using a new Windows user profile if the application works elsewhere.
If the app works after removing a plug-in, reinstall or update that plug-in from its developer rather than replacing dvaaudiodsp.dll.
8. Update graphics and audio drivers
Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Photoshop can depend on graphics or audio hardware components. A stale driver may cause a crash that appears to involve an Adobe DLL.
To update a driver manually:
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or the relevant hardware category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Adobe again.
For a clean test, you can also right-click the device, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and then install the current driver from the hardware manufacturer. Do not remove a device unless you know how to reinstall its driver.
Searching for the right driver versions manually can mean checking several hardware entries and repeating the process after each update. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the affected Adobe application remains the definitive fix when the DLL itself is missing.

9. Repair Windows only when broader corruption is evident
Windows repair commands generally do not restore an Adobe-private DLL. Use them when several unrelated programs fail, Windows components are unstable, or system files are also reporting errors.
First install pending Windows updates, then:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Adobe application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker guidance.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time when the real problem is an incomplete Adobe installation. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues; its free scan shows what it identifies, while repair is performed by the full version. For this file, reinstalling the Adobe product remains the definitive fix.
10. Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM or ActiveX components. There is no evidence that dvaaudiodsp.dll is a COM server that requires registration.

Why copying the DLL is unsafe
A downloaded DLL can have:
- The wrong Adobe release
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Missing dependent files
- Incompatible exports
- An unverifiable origin
- A malicious replacement
Copying it into System32 or SysWOW64 can also cause Windows to load the wrong private component and creates a system-wide file that Adobe did not install there. The correct source is the official Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app or Adobe’s own installer for the affected product.

If reinstalling Adobe still fails
Collect this information before contacting Adobe Support:
- Adobe product name and version
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 version
- Exact error wording
- Full path shown in the error
- Whether
dvaaudiodsp.dllexists in that path - Defender or antivirus Protection History
- Recent Adobe update, crash, cleanup, or reinstall activity
- Windows Event Viewer application error details
- Whether third-party plug-ins were recently installed
- Whether the crash occurs with a blank project or only one file
If the file exists and the application still crashes, the cause may be a missing dependency, plug-in, GPU or audio driver, permissions problem, damaged profile, or Adobe application bug. If the file is outside a normal Adobe folder or lacks a trustworthy Adobe origin, run a full or offline security scan and reinstall the Adobe product from its official installer.
