The dvaunittesting.dll error usually means an Adobe application cannot find, load, or validate one of its own files. The safest repair is to identify the Adobe program named by the installation path, then update, repair, or reinstall that exact application.

Which fix applies to you
Use this decision list before changing anything:
- The error appears when opening Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements, or Elements Organizer: repair or reinstall that Adobe application first.
- The file is absent from the Adobe installation folder: check antivirus quarantine, then repair or reinstall Adobe.
- The file exists but Windows says it is “not designed to run on Windows”: suspect corruption, an incompatible Adobe release, or a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch.
- The message says “specified module could not be found”:
dvaunittesting.dllmay be present while another dependent Adobe file is missing. - The problem began after an Adobe update, migration, cleanup utility, or manual deletion: reinstall the affected Adobe version instead of copying a replacement DLL.
- Several unrelated programs also fail: investigate Windows component corruption with DISM and SFC.
- Adobe starts but then crashes: reset preferences, disable third-party plug-ins, and check graphics drivers.
What dvaunittesting.dll belongs to
dvaunittesting.dll is an Adobe application DLL, not a Windows system component. Public Adobe inventories associate it with the internal component name photoshopdva, and records show it used by Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Photoshop Elements, and Elements Organizer.
It normally belongs beside the executable and other Adobe files in the product’s installation directory, for example:

There is no single universal version, size, or architecture for every Adobe installation. Different Adobe products and releases can contain different builds. A DLL from another Photoshop or Premiere release may be the wrong file even when the filename is identical.
Do not expect to find it in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not valid repair locations for this Adobe-private file.
Fix 1: Update or reinstall the affected Adobe application
This is the most likely solution for a missing or damaged file.

Creative Cloud applications
- Close the Adobe application and any Adobe background windows.
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application from the Start menu.
- Select All apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select its More actions menu.
- Choose Check for updates or the available reinstall option.
- Restart Windows after the installation completes.
- Launch the same Adobe application again.
If the update does not repair the file:
- Return to the application’s More actions menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Install the application from All apps.
- Test it before restoring third-party plug-ins or custom files.
If an older project or plug-in requires a previous release, open More actions > Other versions and install the matching major version. Do not copy dvaunittesting.dll from that older installation into a newer one.
Photoshop Elements or another non-subscription product
Use the registered Adobe account and the installer that matches the product you own. The installer must match the product release and architecture. An installer for Photoshop Elements does not repair Premiere Pro, and an installer for one Elements release may not repair another.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair succeeded if the Adobe application opens without the DLL message and the error does not return after a restart. If the same message returns, note the full path shown in the error or locate the affected executable. Multiple Adobe versions can coexist, so repair the version that Windows is actually trying to launch.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine and protection history
Security software can quarantine a genuine Adobe file after an update or after detecting unusual application behavior.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
dvaunittesting.dllor the Adobe installation folder. - Confirm that the detected path belongs to the Adobe installation you intended to use.
- If it is clearly the genuine file, follow the security product’s Restore or Allow on device procedure.
- Run the Adobe repair or reinstall again rather than relying only on the restored file.
- Start Adobe and test it.
If you use another antivirus product, open its quarantine or detection history and check the complete file path there.
Do not restore a file merely because its filename matches. A file in a temporary folder, a download folder, or an unexpected application directory may not belong to Adobe. If the path is unclear, leave the item quarantined and reinstall Adobe from its official installer.
Fix 3: Check the file, path, and architecture
A file can be present while still being unusable.
- Right-click the Adobe shortcut and select Open file location.
- Locate the Adobe executable that Windows is launching.
- Check whether
dvaunittesting.dllis in that same product directory or an expected Adobe subfolder. - Right-click the DLL, select Properties, and inspect the General and Details tabs.
- Compare the product folder with the application named in the error.
Do not assume that a 32-bit DLL can satisfy a 64-bit Adobe executable, or that a 64-bit DLL can satisfy a 32-bit executable. Also check that the DLL came from the same Adobe product release as the executable and its neighboring files.
If the file exists but the message says “not designed to run on Windows,” “entry point not found,” or “contains an error,” reinstall the application. Those messages can indicate corruption or an incompatible Adobe build rather than a simple missing file.

Fix 4: Check for a missing dependency
“ The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load another file required by dvaunittesting.dll.
First, inspect the Adobe folder for other recently quarantined or missing files. Then run the Adobe installer’s repair or reinstall process. Avoid downloading individual dependency files because the correct dependency must match the Adobe release and architecture.
If the problem remains after a clean reinstall, collect the full error text and check Event Viewer:

- Press Win + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time Adobe failed.
- Record the faulting application name, faulting module name, and exception details.
These details can show whether the failure is really in dvaunittesting.dll, another Adobe module, a plug-in, or a graphics component.

A missing-DLL message should still be repaired through Adobe, but damaged preferences or plug-ins can cause a second startup failure.
For Photoshop:
- Open Photoshop if it starts far enough to display menus.
- Select Edit > Preferences > General.
- Select Reset Preferences On Quit.
- Close Photoshop and open it again.
If Photoshop will not stay open, hold Alt+Ctrl+Shift while launching it and confirm the preference reset when prompted.
For other Adobe applications, temporarily remove or disable third-party plug-ins using that product’s own plug-in management or troubleshooting procedure. Do not delete plug-ins permanently until you have backed them up. If Adobe opens after the reset, restore plug-ins one at a time to identify the incompatible item.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when symptoms are broader
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not reliably recreate a missing Adobe DLL, so they should not be the first response to this filename.

- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall the Adobe application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it could not fix some files, save the result and continue with the Adobe installation repair rather than repeatedly running the same commands.

Repeatedly hunting for corrupted Windows files and rerunning repair commands can be time-consuming when the real problem is an incomplete Adobe installation. Fix 7: Check graphics drivers only for crash-related failures
A graphics driver is not a substitute for dvaunittesting.dll, but a damaged or outdated driver can cause Adobe to crash after its files load.
- Press Win + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Adobe.
If the problem began after a driver update, open the adapter’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and choose Roll Back Driver if that option is available. You can also choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the current driver from the graphics hardware manufacturer.
Do not change drivers solely because dvaunittesting.dll is missing. Use this step when Event Viewer, Adobe crash behavior, or other graphics symptoms point in that direction. Do not use regsvr32 or copy the DLL
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general repair command, and an application-private Adobe runtime DLL normally is not registered this way. Running it against dvaunittesting.dll is unlikely to solve the startup error.
Do not copy the file into System32, SysWOW64, or another Adobe directory. Windows may load the wrong architecture or an incompatible release, creating a different failure. Do not download it from a random DLL website, either. The file may contain malware, belong to a different Adobe product, use the wrong architecture, or leave the damaged installation that caused the problem untouched.

Last resort: clean the Adobe installation
If ordinary uninstall and reinstall repeatedly fail:
- Back up Adobe preferences, plug-ins, presets, projects, and any older installers.
- Close Creative Cloud and all Adobe applications.
- Use Adobe’s official Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool procedure.
- Remove only the Adobe product or components associated with the failure.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the correct Adobe product and release.
- Test it before restoring custom plug-ins and preferences.
A cleaner tool can remove damaged installation files, folders, and registry entries, so do not use it casually or without backups.

- Keep the Adobe installation on a drive with available space.
- Do not delete Adobe folders with disk-cleaning utilities.
- Check antivirus quarantine after major Adobe updates.
- Keep installers or account access for older releases needed by projects.
- Back up plug-ins and preferences before reinstalling.
- Avoid mixing files between Adobe products or release folders.
