Dying Light: The Beast supports online co-op for up to four players total: one host and three guests. However, it does not support crossplay between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Steam and Epic players can play together on PC after linking their accounts, while console matchmaking remains within each platform network.

How many players can play co-op?

The online campaign supports up to four players in one session. One player hosts the campaign and up to three other players join as guests. The game uses shared campaign progression, but the host’s world determines the active mission and world state.

Co-op is online-only. There is no local split-screen mode. Each player needs a separate copy of Dying Light: The Beast, an internet connection, and the relevant Steam, Epic, PlayStation, or Xbox account. Console players may also need the platform’s online multiplayer subscription.

The game is not available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, so those consoles are not supported co-op targets. The official game FAQ describes the game as built for current-generation hardware.

When does co-op unlock?

Multiplayer is unavailable during the opening section. Complete the second campaign quest, “Safe Haven”. Once that quest is finished, the co-op menu and stash become available.

After the introduction is complete, you can also choose the co-op option from the title screen. If you are already playing alone, you can open co-op from the active single-player campaign instead of starting over.

How to invite friends on PC

  1. Complete the quest “Safe Haven.”
  2. Press ESC to open the menu.
  3. Select Co-Op.
  4. In the Party section, press F to invite friends from your Steam or Epic friends list, or select an empty party slot.
  5. After a friend accepts, they join the session automatically.

These are in-game UI actions; there is no verified console command or command-line syntax for enabling co-op.

For the menu path and invitation behavior, see PC Gamer’s co-op guide.

Does Dying Light: The Beast have crossplay?

No—not between PC and consoles. A PC player cannot join a PlayStation or Xbox player, and console players cannot join PC sessions. Current co-op coverage also treats PlayStation and Xbox matchmaking as separate platform networks, so you should not expect PlayStation–Xbox crossplay either.

In practical terms, your group must use compatible versions:

Rank #3
Dying Light: The Beast
  • - You are Kyle Crane, and after years of brutal experiments, you want revenge.
  • - Experience a unique blend of open world and survival horror as you hunt down the man who transformed you into half man, half beast.
Players Can they play together?
Steam and Epic on PC Yes, after account linking
PC and PlayStation No
PC and Xbox No
PlayStation and Xbox No; matchmaking is platform-specific
PlayStation 4 or Xbox One No; those versions are not supported

How Steam and Epic players play together

Steam–Epic multiplayer is PC storefront interoperability, not full cross-platform play. It allows players who own the PC version through different storefronts to access one another’s friends lists, but it does not connect PC with PlayStation or Xbox.

In the co-op menu, choose Sign in with Epic Games/Steam, then link the Steam and Epic accounts as prompted. Once linked, the relevant friends list becomes available for invitations. If the friend does not appear, check that both accounts are linked to the intended game account and that the friend is online through the correct platform service.

How the host and guest saves work

The host’s campaign determines which mission is active and which version of the world the party sees. Joining another player therefore does not make the guest the campaign owner for that session.

Rank #4
Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition (Xbox One)
  • KEY FEATURES:Enhanced Version of the Game - Dying Light is now bigger, better and scarier than ever before. Enjoy the ultimate zombie experience as you scavenge for supplies, craft weapons, and do anything you can to survive in a city ravaged by the zombie virus.Expanded with Dying Light: The Following - Discover the untold chapter of Kyle Crane's story thanks to this massive expansion. Investigate a mysterious cult as you leave the quarantine zone and travel to the seemingly serene countryside - a region bigger than all areas of the original game combined!Drive to Survive - Dying Light: The Following introduces the drivable dirt buggy that you can freely customise and upgrade with special weapons, attachments and decals to create your most deadly weapon yet.All DLCs and Updates - Get all the additional content ever released for Dying Light in one go, including the Be the Zombie multiplayer mode, the Cuisine & Cargo challenge missions, the Ultimate Survivor Bundle, The Bozak Horde game mode, and much more.

A guest’s personal character progress—such as XP, gear, and resources—can persist when they return to their own save. Story progress made in someone else’s world, however, should not be assumed to complete those same missions in the guest’s campaign. If everyone wants the same story progress, take turns hosting and verify the resulting objectives in each player’s own save.

Can you request help from other players?

Yes. The co-op menu includes Call for Help, which lets a lobby request assistance from outside players. A response is not guaranteed, so this is a request for matchmaking help rather than an instant summon.

A private lobby can still send or receive help requests. To control whether the game looks for sessions to join, open the co-op menu’s Online Options tab and adjust Call for Help: Search and Rescue. The search function can be disabled.

Common crossplay misinformation

Some third-party guides claim that Dying Light: The Beast offers full crossplay across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, or that it includes a Cross-Platform Play toggle and cross-platform friend codes. Those instructions are not supported by the current co-op information.

In particular, do not rely on supposed paths such as Settings → Online Settings → Cross-Platform Play or Social → Friends → My Code. The documented setup uses the in-game co-op menu and platform friend systems instead. The PC-only Steam/Epic linking option should not be mistaken for console crossplay.
