If EA SPORTS FC 26 crashes, freezes during a match, or returns to the EA app, start with the fixes that isolate the most common PC causes: update Windows and drivers, repair the game files, cap the frame rate with V-Sync enabled, disable conflicting overlays and background software, and check EA Javelin Anticheat requirements for launch failures. There is no documented universal fix for every FC 26 mid-match freeze, so the right solution depends on when the failure occurs.
First, identify the failure

1. Confirm that the PC meets FC 26’s requirements
FC 26 officially supports 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 with the latest update. Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 are not listed as supported operating systems.
EA’s minimum target is 720p at 60 FPS on the Low preset:

EA’s recommended target is 1080p at 60 FPS on the Medium preset:
- Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
- 12 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GTX 1660 or AMD RX 5600 XT with 6 GB VRAM
- DirectX 12
- 100 GB available storage
These are performance targets, not guarantees that a system will never crash. A PC can meet the minimum specification and still be unstable because of drivers, thermals, software conflicts, corrupted files, or an unstable overclock. 2. Update Windows, drivers, and the launchers
Install pending Windows updates, then update your graphics, sound, and chipset drivers. EA’s current FC 26 technical guidance also recommends updating the launcher. Restart Windows after installing updates.
FC 26 is available on Windows through the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games. Steam installations still require the EA app, an EA Account, and linked EA and Steam accounts. If you use Steam or Epic, update both the store client and the EA app before testing again.

Do not combine that test with several other changes; changing one category at a time makes the result easier to interpret.
3. Repair the FC 26 installation
EA app
- Open the EA app.
- Open Library.
- Find FC 26 and select its Manage icon.
- Choose Repair.
EA recommends repairing files before reinstalling the game or the EA app. This is particularly important after an interrupted update or a crash that started after a patch.
Steam
Use Steam’s official Verify Integrity of Game Files procedure. The exact controls can change with Steam updates, so follow the current instructions in Steam Support’s file-verification guide rather than relying on an outdated button path.
4. Cap the frame rate and enable V-Sync
High or uncapped frame rates are a useful troubleshooting target when FC 26 freezes, crashes after several minutes, or becomes unstable during matches. EA’s general crash guidance recommends capping the frame rate and enabling V-Sync so the game’s output matches the display’s refresh rate.

- Active Monitor
- Display Mode
- Aspect Ratio
- Resolution
- Frame Rate Limit
- VSync
- Render Scale
- Dynamic Resolution FPS Target
Set a stable frame-rate limit instead of leaving the game uncapped. FC 26 includes limits such as 144, 165, and 240 FPS in addition to lower options; choose a value your system can sustain consistently rather than the highest number it can reach briefly. If your display is 60 Hz, test 60 FPS with V-Sync. For a 120 Hz display, test 120 FPS; if that is unstable, use a lower limit.

Do not confuse the frame-rate limit with Render Scale or Dynamic Resolution FPS Target. The limit controls maximum output, while render scale changes internal rendering resolution and dynamic resolution changes resolution to pursue a target. They address different problems.
5. Reduce the settings most likely to load the CPU or GPU
For a controlled test, select the Low preset, restart the game, and play the situation that normally freezes. FC 26 requires a restart when changing the graphics-quality preset.
If Low settings stop the crash, raise options gradually. EA identifies these settings as relatively demanding:

- Cloth Quality: heavy CPU use
Also test lower Crowd Quality, which has moderate CPU, GPU, and VRAM impact, and lower Grass Quality, which has moderate GPU impact. Motion Blur has relatively low CPU, GPU, and VRAM impact, so disabling it is mainly a preference or clarity change rather than the strongest performance intervention.
6. Disable overlays and unnecessary background applications
EA says background applications can consume resources and contribute to connection problems, crashes, slow gameplay, and lag. It specifically lists antivirus and antispyware tools, firewalls, VPNs, proxy or IP-filtering software, file-sharing programs, download managers, and visual-overlay software as possible sources of launch or gameplay problems.
Disable extra overlays temporarily, including graphics-driver overlays, chat overlays, recording tools, monitoring overlays, and Steam’s overlay. The EA app has its own in-game overlay; EA warns that running multiple overlays can conflict with the EA app and games.
Do not permanently weaken security software without a reason. Instead, test with nonessential features disabled, or add the game and EA app to an appropriate allowed list according to the security product’s documentation. EA’s default EA app executable locations are:

7. Use a Windows clean boot to find software conflicts
A clean boot is a diagnostic test, not a permanent FC 26 fix. It starts Windows with non-Microsoft services and startup programs disabled, helping identify whether another application is interfering with installation, launch, or gameplay.

- Open Start, type
msconfig, and press Enter. - In System Configuration, open Services.
- Check Hide all Microsoft Services.
- Select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- When the list loads, right-click each listed startup program and select Disable.
- Close Task Manager, return to System Configuration, select OK, and restart the PC.
Test FC 26. If the freeze disappears, re-enable services and startup items in groups until the conflicting program is identified. Restore normal startup behavior after the test. EA’s full procedure is available in its clean-boot guide.
8. Check DirectX and Visual C++ components
DirectX runtime
Close the EA app, install Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime, follow the installer, and relaunch the EA app. EA says this runtime supplies missing libraries needed by the EA app. This is most relevant when launch errors or missing-component messages appear, but it is a reasonable repair for unexplained startup failures.
Follow EA’s DirectX troubleshooting instructions and use Microsoft’s installer rather than downloading DLL files from third-party sites.
Visual C++ redistributables
From the FC 26 installation folder, open:
_Installervc[relevant year]redistRun both vcredist.exe installers—the x86 and x64 versions. If the folder contains multiple years, EA advises processing the older folder first and then the newer one. This targets missing or damaged Visual C++ runtime components and is more reliable than manually replacing individual DLL files.
9. Investigate EA Javelin Anticheat launch failures
FC 26 uses EA Javelin Anticheat on PC. “EA AntiCheat” is often used as a generic name online, but Javelin Anticheat is the name used in EA’s FC 26 documentation. EA describes it as kernel-level protection that runs only while FC 26 is active; uninstalling FC 26 and other EA games that use it removes the driver.
If Javelin starts, the FC 26 window appears, and the game immediately closes, first repair the game files and remove overlays or security-software conflicts. A reported EA forum workaround is to run EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe from the game’s __InstallerEAAntiCheat directory and then verify the Steam files. Treat this as a reported workaround, not an EA-confirmed universal fix.

Secure Boot: check it for launch or anti-cheat errors
Some Javelin-supported EA games require Secure Boot. FC 26 documentation confirms Javelin is used, but it does not say that every FC 26 launch failure requires Secure Boot. Do not treat Secure Boot as a guaranteed remedy for freezes that occur in the middle of a match.
To check your status:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
msinfo32and select OK. - Open System Summary.
- Check BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State.
EA’s guide says BIOS Mode should be UEFI and Secure Boot State should be On when required. Its current requirements also include TPM 2.0, a GPT Windows disk, and UEFI firmware. Changing firmware settings can prevent Windows from booting if done incorrectly, so consult your motherboard or PC manufacturer’s instructions before changing BIOS settings.

On laptops and hybrid systems, make sure FC 26 is using the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics. EA lists incorrect GPU selection, outdated Windows or drivers, unsuitable in-game settings, and overclocking among causes of PC graphics problems.

Temporarily return CPU, GPU, RAM, and factory-overclock profiles to stock settings. EA recommends disabling overclocking while troubleshooting graphics crashes or instability. If the game becomes stable at stock settings, the previous configuration was not reliable enough for this workload.
11. Clear the EA app cache only when the launcher is the problem
Cache clearing is useful for EA app problems such as offline mode, failed updates, stuck downloads, or games missing from the Library. It is not a universal fix for an FC 26 freeze during a match, and EA says it cannot resolve outages or server downtime.
If the EA app opens
- Select the three horizontal lines in the far-left corner of the EA app.
- Choose Help.
- Open App recovery.
- Select Clear cache.
If the EA app will not open on Windows 10 or 11
Open Start → All Apps → EA → App Recovery → Clear Cache.
After clearing the cache, sign in again and retry the update or launch. If EA’s services are unavailable, wait for service restoration rather than repeatedly clearing the cache.
12. Separate a local PC problem from an update or online problem
Reports describe several FC 26-specific patterns, including crashes after roughly 5–10 minutes, crashes after connecting to the network, black-screen returns to the EA app, Manager Mode freezes after an update, and severe FPS drops during the second half of online matches. These reports show that players are encountering recurring symptoms, but they do not establish one confirmed root cause or one guaranteed fix.
One EA support-page player report describes online performance staying stable in the first half and falling to about 15 FPS when the second half begins. If your problem appears only in one mode or began directly after an update, record the mode, match half, map or stadium if relevant, frame-rate behavior, and whether offline play is stable. Check EA’s FC 26 support page and service information before performing major reinstalls.
Steam also states that updates may be mandatory and that EA may retire online features after 30 days’ notice through its service-updates page. The current sources do not specify an FC 26 end-of-support date, so do not infer one from a temporary outage or an isolated mode failure.
A practical troubleshooting order
- Restart Windows and install pending Windows, launcher, and driver updates.
- Repair FC 26 in the EA app, or use Steam’s official file-verification procedure.
- Set a stable FPS limit, enable V-Sync, and test at the Low preset.
- Disable extra overlays, VPNs, proxy tools, recording software, and nonessential background applications.
- Disable overclocking and confirm the dedicated GPU is being used.
- Install the DirectX End-User Runtime and repair both x86 and x64 Visual C++ packages if launch errors suggest missing components.
- For anti-cheat launch failures, check Secure Boot requirements and investigate the Javelin installer.
- Use a clean boot if the problem persists and you suspect software interference.
- Only then consider reinstalling the EA app or the game.
Change one category at a time and test the same failure scenario after each change. That avoids mistaking a coincidental recovery for a confirmed fix.
When to submit an EA Error Reporter report
If FC 26 still crashes or freezes, submit diagnostics rather than relying on generic forum fixes. When the EA app opens:
- Select the EA app menu icon in the top-left.
- Hover over Help.
- Choose EA Error Reporter.
- Select the Type of problem.
- Describe the crash or freeze in Description of problem.
- Optionally enter a case number under Support Ticket Number.
- Accept the diagnostic-information consent and select Submit report.
EA says the Error Reporter can also be used when the EA app cannot open. Include the platform used to launch FC 26, Windows version, GPU and driver version, whether the crash is offline or online, the exact point in the match where it occurs, and which troubleshooting changes you tested.
