For Dynamax Raikou, build around Ground-type Max Moves: the leading picks in Pokémon GO Hub’s Max Phase damage ranking are Dynamax Excadrill, Dynamax Rhyperior and Dynamax Rhydon, all using Mud-Slap and Max Quake. That ranking is an idealized damage comparison, not a guarantee of victory. Raikou’s announced Max Battle Weekend was March 15–16, 2025, so check current in-game listings or official announcements before planning around its return.
Which Pokémon counter Dynamax Raikou?
Pokémon GO Hub ranks these three Dynamax Pokémon highest among its listed Max Phase attackers against Raikou. Each is listed with Mud-Slap as its Fast Attack and Max Quake as its Max Move:

Pokémon GO Hub’s counter ranking compares damage during the Max Phase and assumes ideal conditions, including no lag and three consecutive Max Attacks. It ranks damage output, not overall durability or the best Pokémon for charging the meter before Dynamaxing. Use the order as a reference, not a promise that a certain party size or lineup will win.
What is Raikou weak to?
The practical counter recommendation here is Ground damage: all three top entries in the cited Raikou ranking use the Ground-type Max Move Max Quake. That supports prioritizing Ground attacks, but the ranking alone does not establish every type-chart interaction or prove that one setup will work in every battle. Levels, move levels, coordination, boss attacks and battle conditions all affect the result.

How to approach the Max Battle
- Bring eligible Pokémon. For Dynamax Max Battles at select Power Spots, the official Pokémon GO Max Battle guide says your party must include at least one Dynamax Pokémon. It describes battles with up to four Trainers.
- Charge the meter during the regular phase. Use Fast and Charged Attacks. When Raikou targets a Pokémon, swipe to dodge; collect battlefield energy icons when they appear to fill the meter faster.
- Spend the Dynamax window on Max Quake. A full meter triggers three Dynamax turns. If possible, use a dedicated attacker with Max Quake during that window.
- Use support moves when needed. Max Guard reduces damage from the boss, while Max Spirit heals the user and allies. These Max Moves need to be unlocked or strengthened with Candy and Max Particles, as explained in the Pokémon GO Help Center’s Max Pokémon guide.
- Keep contributing if your team faints. Against a three-star-or-higher boss, the official guide says fainted Trainers can keep tapping to cheer and help fill teammates’ meters faster.
How to choose your team
Prioritize a Max Phase attacker with a useful Max Move, then account for what you actually have available in Dynamax form and can invest in. A high damage ranking does not tell you whether a Pokémon will survive long enough to charge the meter or whether your party has enough support. Consider the whole battle: who can build the meter, who can deal Max Phase damage, and whether defensive or healing moves would help your group.

The Pokémon Company International announced a Dynamax Raikou Max Battle Weekend for March 15, 2025 at 6:00 a.m. through March 16, 2025 at 9:00 p.m. local time. That event is in the past. The official event announcement documents the historical appearance; the general Max Battle guide explains mechanics, not the current schedule. These sources do not establish whether Raikou is available on October 4, 2026 or when it will return. Check current in-game listings or official event announcements for confirmation.
