EA confirmed organizational changes in its Battlefield group on March 9, 2026, and reporting said layoffs affected all four Battlefield Studios teams: DICE, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive. EA did not disclose how many employees were affected or give a detailed explanation for the cuts. Its public statement described a broad effort to align teams with community priorities while continuing to invest in Battlefield.
What EA confirmed about the layoffs
EA told Game Developer it had made “select changes” within its Battlefield organization. The company said it wanted to “better align our teams around what matters most to our community,” adding that Battlefield remained one of its biggest priorities and that investment would continue, guided by player feedback and Battlefield Labs. Game Developer reported the statement on March 9, 2026.
That is EA’s stated rationale, not a specific account of why particular roles were eliminated. The statement did not identify affected roles, locations, or employment types, and it did not provide a headcount. Game Developer reported that the number of employees affected was unclear; no reliable total or workforce percentage was established in the coverage.
Which Battlefield studios were affected?
Game Developer reported that layoffs had reached DICE, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive, citing IGN’s understanding. EA identifies these four teams as Battlefield Studios in its own October 10, 2025 feature on the collaboration.

Those descriptions reflect EA’s account of the Battlefield 6 collaboration published in October 2025; they do not establish each studio’s current assignments after the layoffs.
Did Battlefield 6’s success cause the cuts?
The available statements do not establish a connection. EA announced in October 2025 that Battlefield 6 sold more than seven million copies in its first three days. The company also reported over 172 million online matches and over 15 million hours watched on streaming services during the launch weekend. These are EA-reported launch figures, not evidence of the reason for organizational changes announced months later. EA published the figures on October 24, 2025.

EA’s March statement did not link the layoffs to sales, player counts, missed targets, an acquisition, or content performance. It also did not explain the detailed business or production rationale behind the changes. Any claim that Battlefield 6’s performance caused the layoffs would go beyond what the cited reporting establishes.
What is known about studio operations and future content?
GameSpot reported on March 9, 2026, that all four studios would remain open at that time, while noting that the scope of the cuts and their possible effect on future content were unclear. That report does not establish the studios’ operating status or staffing plans as of October 8, 2026. Nor do the cited sources quantify any effect on Battlefield 6’s roadmap, live-service cadence, or a future game. GameSpot’s report is a snapshot of what was known on the day the changes were reported.

How this differs from EA’s 2024 Ridgeline change
In February 2024, EA President of EA Entertainment and Technology Laura Miele said the standalone Ridgeline studio in Seattle would be wound down, with some team members joining Ripple Effect. That was a separate earlier organizational change; it should not be conflated with the March 2026 layoffs. Miele’s announcement was published February 28, 2024.
