The “This software cannot be used at the same time as the game: VirtualController” message is an EA Javelin anti-cheat conflict, not automatic proof that your FC 25 installation is damaged. The usual cause is a virtual-input layer from DS4Windows, reWASD, a controller remapper, macro utility, debugger, virtual-drive utility, or a driver left behind after the program was closed or removed. Check the Windows notification area and Task Manager; a window being closed does not always stop a service or driver.
- Disconnect the controller. Unplug a USB controller or turn off its Bluetooth connection. This prevents Windows from immediately recreating an emulated device while you are restarting.
- Restart Windows. A full restart unloads many temporary hooks and gives Windows a clean device-enumeration pass. Do not merely sign out or close the EA app.
- Reconnect the controller directly. Use a motherboard USB port rather than a hub for this test. For Bluetooth, pair it again only after Windows has finished starting.
- Launch FC 25 through the EA app. Do not start the game from a remapper, an overlay launcher, or a shortcut that first starts an emulation utility.

Can Windows or controller updates stop the conflict?
They can. EA notes that outdated software and hardware-related interfaces may cause Javelin conflicts. Install pending Windows updates, then update the controller firmware or device software using the manufacturer’s current package. Reboot after each major update so the new driver is actually loaded.

- For a wired controller, replace a damaged cable and test a direct USB port. A connection that repeatedly disconnects can cause Windows to enumerate several duplicate devices.
- For Bluetooth, remove the controller under Settings > Bluetooth & devices, restart, and pair it again after updating the Bluetooth adapter driver.
- Remove old remapping profiles that automatically start with Windows. A profile can launch a helper service even when the main application is not visible.
Update one layer at a time and retest FC 25. If the warning begins immediately after a driver update, use Device Manager’s Properties > Driver tab to review the provider and date, then roll back only when Windows offers that option and you know which change caused the regression.
What if EA Javelin anti-cheat will not start or cannot find FC 25?
A Javelin service failure is separate from a detected VirtualController. If the launcher reports that anti-cheat cannot start, cannot locate the game installation, or fails before the controller warning, use EA’s repair or reinstall procedure for Javelin anti-cheat. Follow the current EA instructions for your installation rather than downloading a replacement service from an unofficial site.
