What is my verdict on EA Sports FC 27?
FC 27 is a more considered annual update than a wholesale reset. Its strongest case is for players who want a social small-sided mode, more control over defending, or the latest Career and Ultimate Team changes. If you mainly want a dramatically different version of last year’s football, the launch reviews suggest tempering expectations.

The available evidence cannot verify the title’s first-person premise that the author has played every FIFA game since 2000. Reviewers are also evaluating different builds and platforms: Game Informer reviewed the PS5 version on September 25, The Independent played an early-access PS5 Pro build on September 18, and TheSixthAxis reviewed on PS5 on September 24. EA has continued issuing launch updates and title updates, so their observations describe launch-era versions, not necessarily every later patch.

The Grounds: a social football playground
The Grounds is FC 27’s most visible addition: a social space for small-sided matches, Kickabouts, connecting with mentors, and Clubs. EA lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 as supported for The Grounds and Clubs; it is unavailable on PS4 and Xbox One. Feature availability varies by platform, so check EA’s edition and platform information before buying.

Reviewers see potential in the mode, but not a universally convincing execution. Game Informer found its ambition limited, while TheSixthAxis praised the idea but criticized the atmosphere. The Independent could not test every Grounds activity in its early-access build. In short, it is a reason to consider FC 27 if social Clubs play appeals to you, not proof that the whole game has been transformed.
More hands-on match control
EA highlights dynamic corners, enhanced attacking movement, and more manual defending. In Game Informer’s PS5 review, defending felt more dependent on player control, manual defending was rewarded, and through balls demanded better aim. The same review noted unwanted player switching and inconsistent CPU teammates. The Independent also saw promise in the gameplay adjustments while warning that some changes had unintended effects.

EA describes a rebuilt Career transfer market with player values and active club bidding, alongside player-development changes. Reviewers regarded the Career adjustments as promising or authentic, but Game Informer found them incremental rather than transformative.

Ultimate Team adds a Gallery, where themed sets contribute to Gallery progression and rewards. The Independent found much of Ultimate Team familiar, while TheSixthAxis criticized FUT’s more arcade-like feel. If you mainly play FUT, the Gallery is a concrete addition, but the reviews do not portray it as a wholesale change to the mode.

Which platforms and editions should you consider?
Platform access
EA lists the Standard and Ultimate editions for EA App, PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and One, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The Grounds is not available on PS4 or Xbox One, so an older-console purchase does not provide access to that headline mode. Some features vary by platform.

Standard, Ultimate, and Lite
- Standard Edition: EA describes it as the full game with all core modes.

Who should play FC 27?
- Consider it if: you want to try The Grounds or Clubs on a supported platform, value more hands-on defending, or are interested in the Career transfer and development changes.
- Try Lite first if: you want a free, limited sample before committing to the full game, and its selected content suits what you want to test.
- Be cautious if: you expect a major overhaul, play on PS4 or Xbox One specifically for The Grounds, or want every familiar mode to feel substantially different.
EA reports that FC 27 includes 21,000+ players, 800+ clubs and national teams, 140 stadiums, and 35+ leagues, supported by over 300 global football partners. These are publisher-reported figures from its August 27, 2026 announcement, not independently audited counts. EA’s September 25 launch announcement calls it the biggest football experience the company has delivered; that is EA’s promotional description, rather than an independent verdict.
