The leaked RTX 5070 Ti benchmarks suggested a roughly 13.2% performance deficit versus the RTX 5080 overall. In the individual 3DMark comparisons reported at the time, the gap ranged from 16.08% to 20.68%. Those were synthetic results—not game benchmarks—and later retail reviews generally found the RTX 5070 Ti closer to 90% of the RTX 5080’s gaming performance, or about 10% slower in many games.
That makes the RTX 5070 Ti the more convincing value at its $749 launch MSRP, while the $999 RTX 5080 is easier to justify for high-refresh 4K gaming, demanding ray tracing, or whenever the real-world price difference becomes small.

What actually leaked?
The original report, published by PC Guide from results posted by VideoCardz, was not a complete RTX 5070 Ti review. The figures were attributed to review media and covered 3DMark tests, but did not include a representative game benchmark suite.

RTX 5070 Ti vs. RTX 5080: leaked 3DMark results
| 3DMark test | RTX 5080 FE | RTX 5070 Ti | 5070 Ti deficit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire Strike Ultra, 4K | 21,568 | 18,065 | 16.24% |
| Time Spy Extreme, 4K | 16,069 | 13,485 | 16.08% |
| Steel Nomad | 8,235 | 6,532 | 20.68% |
The broader calculation reported from the leak put the RTX 5070 Ti approximately 13.2% behind the RTX 5080. That number should not be read as a universal gaming figure: the table above contains different synthetic workloads, each with its own scoring behavior.
Why the percentages are different
3DMark tests do not stress a GPU in exactly the same way. Some workloads emphasize rasterization, while others place more pressure on newer rendering features, shader throughput, memory behavior, or ray tracing. Steel Nomad’s approximately 21% deficit therefore cannot simply be averaged with the other results and called the RTX 5070 Ti’s gaming gap.
Comparisons can also change with:
- Resolution: CPU limits can hide differences at 1080p, while 4K usually places more demand on the GPU.
- Ray tracing: heavier RT settings can widen the difference between GPU tiers, but raster-only results cannot predict the exact RT gap.
- Drivers and benchmark versions: changes to drivers or 3DMark can affect scores.
- Board design: a factory-overclocked RTX 5080 may increase its lead over a reference-clock RTX 5070 Ti.
- Power and cooling: different power limits, BIOS modes, and temperatures can affect sustained clocks.
- Upscaling and frame generation: generated-frame results are not directly comparable with native-rendering performance because base-frame rate, latency, and image quality also matter.
Why the RTX 5080 is expected to be faster
The two cards have the same nominal VRAM capacity and memory-bus width, but the RTX 5080 has considerably more GPU resources. NVIDIA’s published specifications list the following core differences:

Both cards having 16GB of VRAM does not make them equivalent. The RTX 5080’s additional compute capacity, clocks, bandwidth implementation, and power headroom can produce higher frame rates at demanding settings. At the same time, neither card has a capacity advantage for buyers specifically seeking more than 16GB of VRAM.
Specifications can vary by board partner and region. NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series product pages are the appropriate reference for the current published specifications.
What final gaming reviews showed
Once retail reviews were available, the picture became clearer. Ars Technica’s RTX 5070 Ti review found the card generally delivered around 90% of the RTX 5080’s performance in its game testing. That implies an approximately 10% deficit in many real-world gaming comparisons—smaller than the largest leaked synthetic gap, but still meaningful in demanding workloads.

The result will vary by game, resolution, graphics settings, engine, and whether ray tracing is enabled. At 1440p, a CPU-limited game or a title already running beyond a monitor’s refresh rate may make the difference difficult to notice. At 4K, particularly with ray tracing, the RTX 5080’s extra headroom is more useful.
Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 GPU hierarchy likewise places the RTX 5080 ahead of the RTX 5070 Ti in aggregate rasterization results, while showing why the exact gap depends on the resolution and test suite.
Is the RTX 5070 Ti better value?
At launch MSRP, the RTX 5080 cost $250 more: $999 versus $749. That is approximately a 33% price premium. If the performance advantage in typical gaming is about 10% to 15%, the RTX 5070 Ti offers better performance per dollar at those prices.

There was an important catch: NVIDIA did not produce a Founders Edition RTX 5070 Ti. Its $749 price was therefore a launch MSRP rather than a guaranteed retail price, and launch coverage noted that cards at that price could be difficult to find.
For a current purchase, MSRP is historical context rather than a recommendation. Reports published in August 2026 indicated that RTX 50-series street prices had risen substantially above launch levels in parts of the U.S. market. See PC Gamer’s graphics-card price watch and Tom’s Hardware’s August 2026 pricing report for market context. Prices vary by retailer, board partner, region, stock, tax, and card condition.
Which card should you buy?
Choose the RTX 5070 Ti when:
- You mainly play at 1440p.
- It is available near its $749 launch MSRP or substantially below the RTX 5080.
- You want stronger performance per dollar.
- 16GB of VRAM is adequate for your games and settings.
- You are comfortable using DLSS or frame generation where appropriate.
Choose the RTX 5080 when:
- You primarily game at 4K.
- You use a high-refresh 4K display.
- Ray tracing is a major priority.
- The actual price premium is small enough to justify the extra headroom.
- You want the fastest option below the RTX 5090 and expect to keep the card for several GPU generations.
If you are comparing partner cards, check the exact model’s price, cooler size, case clearance, factory-overclock premium, warranty, return policy, power-connector placement, and noise or temperature testing. A premium RTX 5080 model should not be compared with the cheapest RTX 5070 Ti and treated as a pure GPU-to-GPU price comparison.
Best Value
- Suitable for ASUS RTX 3050 PHOENIX / RTX 3060 PHOENIX
- Incompatible with other Graphics Card
- Fan diameter:95mm
- Power connector: 6 Pin
AMD alternatives may be worth considering when raster performance per dollar is the priority and you do not need NVIDIA-specific features or workflows such as CUDA, NVIDIA Broadcast, NVENC, or DLSS. The right Radeon comparison depends on current local pricing and model-specific benchmarks, so there is no universal AMD recommendation from these RTX results alone.
The practical buying rule
Check today’s prices before deciding, then compare the premium with the roughly 10%–15% typical gaming-performance difference:
- 5070 Ti near $749 and 5080 near $999: the 5070 Ti is generally the better value.
- Nearly identical prices: buy the RTX 5080 for its extra performance headroom.
- Inflated 5070 Ti pricing: compare it directly with the RTX 5080 and competing cards instead of assuming it remains the value option.
- Used or open-box: prioritize warranty, return coverage, cooler condition, and the power connector over a small nominal discount.
Bottom line: the early leak was broadly credible in showing a meaningful but not enormous RTX 5070 Ti deficit. The best summary is approximately 13% to 21% slower in the reported synthetic tests and roughly 10% slower in typical gaming reviews. The RTX 5070 Ti made the stronger value case at launch MSRP; in 2026, the actual gap between the two cards’ prices matters more than their original MSRPs.
