How much data can the free edition recover?
The current EaseUS comparison lists the Free edition as recovering up to 2 GB. The same comparison lists the Pro edition as unlimited. An older EaseUS brand page contains an inconsistent “Recover Unlimited Data” entry for Free; treat that older row as stale and check the current comparison shown for your region before relying on the allowance.
The allowance applies to the amount you save through the free edition, not to a promise that a scan will find 2 GB of usable files. A scan can display more candidates than you are allowed to export, and files may be damaged, have generic names or lack their original folder structure.

EaseUS lists a broad range of storage targets. The basic device classes below are documented by the vendor; individual advanced workflows can be restricted to Pro.

Does it work with Windows, SSDs, USB drives and SD cards?
Yes. EaseUS’s support documentation lists Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11, plus Windows Server releases through Server 2025. It also lists internal and external disks, SSDs, USB drives, memory cards, cameras, RAID, NAS and other removable media as supported targets.
The listed file systems are FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, NTFS5, EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, HFS+ and ReFS. The current product page identifies version 20.5.0 and mentions a universal RAW algorithm and iCloud recovery additions. Version numbers, operating-system support and cloud features can change, so verify the download page before installing on an older Windows release or a server.

How should you use EaseUS after losing files?
Follow this order. It minimizes additional writes and keeps the recovered copy separate from the damaged source.
- Stop using the affected drive. Do not copy new files to it, install updates on it, empty or recreate partitions, or continue recording to a memory card.
- Prepare another storage device. Use a separate internal volume, USB flash drive or external hard drive for the installer and, later, the recovered files. The destination must have enough free space for the files you intend to save.
- Download and install the utility on the other drive. EaseUS’s own download guidance specifically says to save and install the program somewhere other than the drive where the loss occurred. Installing on the source can overwrite recoverable data.
- Connect the source device and choose its volume. Select the actual disk, partition or removable card that contained the missing files. If Windows offers to format an unreadable card, cancel that prompt rather than accepting it.
- Run the scan. Allow the scan to examine the selected target. Keep the computer powered and avoid disconnecting a USB device while the scan is running.
- Filter and preview the results. Use the file-type and location filters to narrow the list, then preview files where that option is available. A visible filename is not proof that the contents are intact; previewing helps you select usable copies.
- Recover to the separate destination. Choose the prepared disk or another safe location, never the original source volume. Open several recovered files from the destination to confirm that they work before doing any further repair or cleanup.
Why must the installer and recovered files be elsewhere?
Deletion usually removes directory references first while leaving data blocks available for reuse. Every write to the same device—including an installer, browser download, temporary file or recovered output—can reuse those blocks. A separate USB flash drive or external hard drive therefore serves two distinct purposes: it can hold the program and provide a destination for the recovered copy.

Can it recover files after formatting or a partition problem?
EaseUS lists formatted devices, lost partitions and inaccessible volumes among its intended scenarios. A quick format may leave substantial data in place, while a full format, extensive reuse of the device or severe physical damage can reduce what remains. The software can only work with data that the storage still exposes; it cannot recreate bytes that have been overwritten.
For a formatted disk, stop using it, connect it without initializing it, and scan the correct physical device or remaining volume. For a lost partition, avoid creating a replacement partition merely to make the disk appear usable. If the drive is clicking, repeatedly disconnecting, overheating or not detected at all, continued software scans can worsen a hardware problem; shut it down and consider professional diagnosis instead.
What is included in Free, and what requires Pro?
Free is useful for a limited amount of ordinary file recovery. The current comparison identifies several specialist functions as Pro-only.

Do not assume that a scan result means the associated repair function is included in Free. In particular, BitLocker, NAS, crashed-system, corrupted-video, advanced photo and Office-document workflows should be treated as Pro features unless the current edition page says otherwise.

Is EaseUS Free enough, or do you need Pro?
Free is a sensible first attempt when the missing material is within its allowance, the computer still boots, the source drive is readable, and you mainly need ordinary documents, photos, media or archives. It also lets you test whether useful files appear before paying.

- Confirm that you selected the physical disk or correct partition, not an empty replacement volume.
- Reconnect the device directly rather than through an unreliable hub, then check whether its capacity and model are detected consistently.
- Search by file type and use preview instead of relying only on the original folder name.
- Stop if the device develops unusual noises, severe heat or repeated disconnects; these symptoms point toward hardware failure.
- Do not repeatedly install software, reformat the source or run repair utilities that write changes to it.
A scan with no usable previews can mean the data was overwritten, the file system is severely damaged, the device is encrypted, or the storage itself is failing. No independent recovery-rate statistic is established here, so neither Free nor Pro should be presented as having a guaranteed success percentage.

Professional help is most appropriate when the drive is physically failing, the data is business-critical, the device cannot be detected reliably, or further experimentation could destroy the only copy. Keep the original device unchanged and explain every action already taken so the technician can choose a safer procedure.
Common mistakes that reduce recovery chances
- Installing on the source: the installer and its temporary files can overwrite deleted data.
- Saving recovered files back to the source: successful results can destroy other results that have not yet been copied.
- Accepting a format prompt: formatting or initializing an unreadable card changes the storage before recovery.
- Continuing to record or download: new photos, videos, games or updates reuse free blocks.
