Before changing files, note:
- Which program triggers the message: a Kodak printer utility, a print job, or another application.
- When it appears: during Windows startup, when opening the Kodak software, or only while printing.
- Which printer is installed: open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and look for the Kodak model.
- Your Windows architecture: open Settings > System > About and check System type.
- Whether the file was quarantined: open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history.
The documented ekaioxps.dll build is a 32-bit PE32 DLL, version 1.8.0.10, associated with Eastman Kodak’s KODAK AiO Printer Driver. Its description identifies it as an XPS filter for booklet, N-up, poster and watermark printing. A 32-bit printer component can still be correct on 64-bit Windows through WOW64, so do not replace it with a random 64-bit DLL.

It is not a Windows system DLL, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file or Microsoft redistributable. That distinction matters because Windows repair commands generally will not recreate a missing third-party Kodak file.

The error usually affects Kodak printing rather than Windows itself. A missing printer filter should not normally stop Windows from booting. If the message appears only when opening Kodak software or sending a print job, concentrate on the printer package first.
Fix 1: Remove and add the Kodak printer again
This is the fastest repair and the one most likely to restore the complete driver relationship.
- Save any pending work and restart Windows.
- Install pending updates through Settings > Windows Update.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Kodak printer.
- Select Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows again.
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Wait while Windows searches for the printer.
- Select the Kodak device if it appears.
- Allow Windows Update to obtain and install the driver.
- Print a test page from the printer’s settings.
Success means the printer is added without the DLL warning and a test page prints. If Windows finds no Kodak device, select Add manually and follow the connection-specific options. A USB printer may need to be connected only when Windows requests it.

Fix 2: Reinstall the complete Kodak package
If you still have Kodak installation media or a verified installer saved from the original printer setup, reinstall the full package for the exact model. Do not extract only ekaioxps.dll.
A complete package may include the INF file, printer configuration, XPS components and other files that must match one another. Copying a DLL into a system directory often leaves the actual driver incomplete and can create architecture or entry-point errors.
Use this procedure:
- Remove the Kodak printer using Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Disconnect the printer’s USB cable if it is connected.
- Right-click the Kodak installer and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- If the installer predates your Windows release, enable compatibility mode for an older supported Windows version.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer.
- Choose the exact Kodak printer model when prompted.
- Connect or power on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after setup completes.
- Print a test page.
If the installer refuses to run, reports that the operating system is unsupported, or does not contain your printer model, do not substitute another Kodak package. A mismatched package can produce the same missing-DLL message or a “not designed to run on Windows” error.

Kodak’s AiO inkjet support has ended, and current Kodak software or drivers may no longer be available. In that situation, Windows Update, a preserved original installer or a generic Windows printer driver may be the only practical software paths.
When manually comparing installed drivers, open Device Manager, expand Printers or Print queues, right-click the Kodak device and select Properties > Driver. Use Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers. If the device is listed under Other devices, right-click it and select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and add the printer again.
Manually hunting through old driver packages, guessing which of several installed drivers is stale, and repeating the process after each update can be time-consuming. Fix 3: Check whether antivirus removed the file
A security product may quarantine an old printer component, especially if the file was placed in an unexpected directory or the installer bundled obsolete software.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Expand any entry that names

Restore the file only when all of these conditions are true:
- It came from a known Kodak installation package.
- The path belongs to the Kodak driver installation.
- The printer model and package match.
- The file’s signature and provenance can be validated.
- Your security software does not continue to identify it as malicious.
Do not restore a file downloaded from a DLL-index site, an unknown archive or an unrelated application folder. If the file is unsigned, located somewhere unexpected or repeatedly detected as malware, remove the obsolete Kodak package and run a full Windows Security scan instead.
After restoring a verified file, reinstall the complete Kodak driver package rather than relying on the restored DLL alone.
Fix 4: Check architecture and package consistency
The known ekaioxps.dll metadata describes a 32-bit PE32 file. That does not mean it is wrong on 64-bit Windows. Many older printer packages contain 32-bit filters that run through Windows on Windows.

The important match is:
- The DLL’s architecture matches the Kodak package.
- The package matches the printer model.
- Related files come from the same installer and build.
- The file is in the package’s expected directory.
Do not copy a 32-bit DLL from one Kodak model into another driver, and do not replace it with a 64-bit file merely because Windows is 64-bit.
If Windows says the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” remove the Kodak printer and reinstall the complete matching package. That message can indicate a damaged file, wrong architecture or mismatched version. It does not prove that the DLL is malware.
Fix 5: Do not register this DLL with regsvr32
regsvr32 ekaioxps.dll is not a justified first-line fix. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose the registration entry point used by ActiveX or COM components. ekaioxps.dll is identified as a printer/XPS filter, not as a documented self-registering component.
Running the command may produce an error stating that the module was loaded but DllRegisterServer could not be found. That does not repair the Kodak printer.
Use the Kodak installer or Windows printer setup to install the component. Those procedures place the files and driver configuration where the print subsystem expects them.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only as a secondary step
Use Windows component repair when the problem began alongside broader corruption, failed updates or multiple unrelated Windows errors. It is not the primary method for restoring a third-party Kodak DLL.
First, open Settings > Windows Update, install available updates and restart. Then:

- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Remove and add the Kodak printer again.
Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC. SFC can repair protected Windows files, but there is no verified basis for expecting it to recreate ekaioxps.dll, because this file belongs to Kodak software.

Fix 7: Use a generic Windows printer driver
If Kodak’s installer is unavailable, try the driver Windows supplies.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Wait for the search to complete.
- If the printer appears, select it.
- If it does not, select Add manually.
- Choose the appropriate USB, network or manual printer option.
- Select a Microsoft-provided or generic driver when offered.
- Complete setup and print a test page.
This may restore basic printing without ekaioxps.dll. It may not restore Kodak’s custom utility, scanning support or advanced layout controls.
Do not enable XPS Viewer in Settings > System > Optional features as a substitute for the Kodak filter. XPS Viewer opens XPS documents; it does not reinstall a printer driver DLL.
Advanced cleanup: remove only the confirmed Kodak package
Administrators who know the exact damaged package can inspect the driver store.
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
pnputil /enum-drivers
Look for the confirmed Kodak provider and its associated published name, such as an oem##.inf entry. Do not remove a package based only on a similar filename.
After verifying the package, remove it with:
pnputil /delete-driver oem##.inf /uninstall
Replace oem##.inf with the actual published name. Restart Windows, then reinstall through Add device or the complete verified Kodak installer.

Never manually delete files from the driver store. Removing the wrong package can break another printer or device.

If Windows cannot find a compatible driver, the original installer is unavailable and the Kodak utility remains dependent on ekaioxps.dll, the printer may be too old for a reliable software repair. Use the generic Windows driver if it provides the features you need. Otherwise, replacing the unsupported printer is more dependable than repeatedly sourcing individual DLL files.
