The Chainlink Flail is a Strike-type flail in Elden Ring with the Spinning Chain skill and innate blood-loss buildup. Its listed base requirements are 18 Strength and 12 Dexterity. Guides disagree about where it drops, so check the location in your current game version before farming.
What is the Chainlink Flail?
It is a flail described by the reference database as a spiked iron tube attached to a chain and wielded by Mad Pumpkin Heads. The description says it is especially large for a flail and calls for more Strength than Dexterity. That wording is reproduced by the database; it has not been independently confirmed here against the in-game item text. Fextralife’s Chainlink Flail entry lists its attack type as Strike and its weapon skill as Spinning Chain.
What stats and requirements does it have?
The following are listed base weapon values, not upgraded stats. Game8’s entry was updated July 3, 2024; Gamer Guides does not state a publication date for its figures.
| Property | Listed value |
|---|---|
| Attack type | Strike |
| Weapon skill | Spinning Chain |
| Strength requirement | 18 |
| Dexterity requirement | 12 |
| Weight | 8.0 |
| Physical attack | 109 |
| Passive effect | Blood-loss buildup (50) |
| Base scaling | Strength C, Dexterity E (Gamer Guides) |
These reference values identify a Strength-leaning weapon with a built-in status effect. They do not establish that it deals more damage, builds blood loss faster, or performs better than another flail in a particular build; the cited sources provide no controlled comparison. Its listed 18 Strength and 12 Dexterity requirements are the key checks before equipping it.

Where do you get the Chainlink Flail?
Published guides give different drop locations, and their directions should not be combined into a single route:
- Game8 identifies a wielding Pumpkin Head at a camp north of the Foot of the Four Belfries Site of Grace in Liurnia.
- Gamer Guides names the Pumpkin Head guarding the outskirts of Fort Haight.
Because the reports conflict and do not establish which location applies to every game version, check the enemy and item drop in your own current game before spending time on a farming route. A community-wiki entry reports a 4% drop chance from wielding Mad Pumpkin Head enemies, but that rate is not independently verified and should not be treated as an official drop probability.

Is it a good fit for your build?
Consider it if you meet its requirements, want a Strike-type weapon, and value innate blood-loss buildup alongside a Strength-favoring stat profile. The 8.0 weight is also a practical equipment-load consideration. Whether it suits you depends on your build and preferred moveset; the available references do not provide comparative damage or speed testing to justify calling it the best or strongest choice.
When comparing it with another weapon, check the requirements, weight, attack type, skill, scaling, upgrade path, and whether the alternative has a status effect you want. Spinning Chain is the listed skill, so consider whether that skill fits how you intend to use the weapon.

Gamer Guides lists Smithing Stones for upgrades and says Ashes of War infusion and magic or consumable buffs are possible. A community-wiki entry reports a maximum upgrade level of +25 using Smithing Stones. These are third-party reference claims, not official publisher documentation; verify applicable upgrade and customization details in your current game before investing materials or planning an infusion. The base figures above should not be confused with the weapon’s values after upgrading.
