Before your first Nightreign expedition, choose a Nightfarer you can commit to for the whole run, check the Nightlord’s weakness, and decide whether you’re playing solo or with a team. Once you land in Limveld, spend the first two days growing stronger without letting the shrinking safe area dictate a desperate retreat: coordinate the opening route, use Sites of Grace to level and recover, and visit churches for extra flask charges when the route allows.
What to expect from a Nightreign expedition
Nightreign is a standalone adventure in the Elden Ring universe, built around short, timed expeditions rather than an unhurried open-world campaign. Each expedition has three days: explore and power up during the first two while the Night’s Tide contracts the safe area, fight a boss each night, then face the Nightlord on day three. That structure makes route and timing decisions part of your preparation. You are not trying to clear every point on the map; you are trying to arrive at each night’s fight with better gear and enough resources while staying inside the playable area.
Before leaving Roundtable Hold
Choose your Nightfarer for the whole expedition
Your Nightfarer selection is fixed for that expedition, so make the choice before departing. The characters have preset abilities and different combat styles; there is no verified universal “easiest” Nightfarer. Instead, consider whether you prefer a particular combat range or ability style, then test how the character feels.

Use the Sparring Grounds to try skills, ultimate arts, blocking, dodging, and weapons before committing. The official beginner guide notes that training gauges can be set to unlimited for practice. Check the Nightlord’s weakness
The expedition screen displays the selected Nightlord’s elemental weakness. Use that information to inform your equipment or spell choices where practical. Bandai Namco’s beginner guide uses Tricephalos and Holy as an example; a displayed weakness is useful preparation, not a reason to ignore a weapon or ability that better suits your character.
Choose solo or cooperative play
At the Table of Lost Grace, decide whether you want to play alone or coordinate with other players. Solo play can be online or offline; cooperative play requires an internet connection. Enemy HP is scaled down in solo, but that alone does not make solo or co-op universally easier: the better fit depends on your preference and experience with the game’s combat and coordination.

How to use the first two days in Limveld
Agree on a nearby route and clear an opening camp
When you land, open the map and pin nearby points of interest so your teammates can see the intended route. If you are new, clearing a nearby camp together is a practical opening: the official beginner guide says it can provide enough runes for an early level and additional weapons. Splitting up can make sense for experienced groups, but it adds coordination demands when you are still learning the map and enemy encounters.
Know what is shared and what is not
Enemy rune drops are shared equally among teammates, so you do not need to compete for the kill to receive runes. Gear and items, however, are not instanced: a weapon picked up by one player disappears for the others. Call out useful drops and coordinate who takes them, especially when a teammate’s build would benefit more.
Spend runes at Sites of Grace
Use Sites of Grace to restore HP, FP, and flask charges, and to spend accumulated runes on levels. Leveling is automatic: the Nightfarer’s stats increase according to that character rather than through manual stat allocation. This makes stopping at a Grace valuable both for recovery and for turning early exploration into power growth.

Look for churches when the route is safe
A church altar adds a Crimson Flask charge for every member of the team for the remainder of that expedition. Visit one when it fits the route and the safe area’s movement; the extra healing charge is useful, but a long detour that risks being caught outside the playable area can cost more than it gains.
Pick useful equipment, not just rare-looking equipment
Rarity alone is not a reliable measure of what will help you. The beginner guide says passive abilities generally work regardless of level, while some weapon skills require sufficient level. Compare a weapon’s practical effect and passive benefit with your character and current needs rather than assuming the highest rarity is automatically the best pickup.
Keep the Night’s Tide in your route decisions
The safe area contracts over each of the first two days. Check the map and move toward useful nearby objectives without spending so long chasing a risky target that the team is caught outside the playable area. The clock turns exploration into a trade-off: take enough time to gain levels, healing, and gear, but leave room to reach the next fight safely.

Nightreign asks you to make quick decisions about routes, runes, equipment, and timing, so a first expedition may feel less forgiving than exploring Elden Ring at your own pace. If a run ends early, use what you learned about the map, your Nightfarer’s skills, enemy groups, and boss preparation to make a more informed choice next time. That is a practical way to approach the game’s repeated expedition loop, not a guarantee that each attempt will progress further.
What Nightreign includes
Bandai Namco lists Nightreign as a standalone game for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The publisher’s page also lists The Forsaken Hollows DLC, which adds two Nightfarers, two bosses, and an additional Shifting Earth; the DLC listing says it does not include the base game.
