To beat Fulghor, the Darkdrift Knight, build around lightning damage and holy damage negation, then punish his recovery windows instead of attacking through his combos. Keep mobile or ranged pressure on him when he moves away; in phase two, dodge the claw-arm sweeps and slam before closing in. The attack-specific tactics below are reported by PC Gamer in a guide published June 4, 2025, and are not verified against later balance changes.
Prepare during the expedition
Nightreign’s expedition structure gives you time to build strength before the Nightlord fight: explore and collect runes and gear during the days, then face a boss at night. Bandai Namco’s gameplay guide describes the sequence of two nighttime bosses before the Day 3 Nightlord encounter. Spend route time on practical upgrades rather than assuming you need a particular level.
- Level and add flask charges. Use Sites of Grace to level up; churches add a Flask of Crimson Tears charge. The official starter guide explains these expedition systems. PC Gamer’s Fulghor guide suggests approaching level 15 and maximizing flask charges, but level 15 is a recommendation, not a requirement.
- Seek lightning offense. PC Gamer reports that Fulghor is weak to lightning. Depending on what the expedition offers, use a lightning weapon or spell, lightning grease, or lightning bombs; lightning-focused relic effects are another possible source. The guide says sufficient lightning damage can stagger him or interrupt some charged attacks, but gives no universal threshold.
- Reduce holy damage. Many of Fulghor’s dangerous attacks deal holy damage, according to PC Gamer. Consider holy-negation relic effects and the Haligdrake talisman if you find them. The guide estimates that two sources may provide around 25% combined negation; treat that as its build-specific recommendation, not a guaranteed value for every setup.
- Consider damage over time. Poison or scarlet rot can keep dealing damage while Fulghor is moving. PC Gamer describes poison as easier to find and scarlet rot as rarer; neither is presented as essential.
Phase one: wait out the spear and holy sequences
Spear combo
Fulghor’s spear sequence can include three hits, shockwaves, stomps, or a spear drag, with pauses that may look like an opening. If he is targeting you, keep evading until the sequence is clearly over rather than trying to trade through it. Ranged players can chip away while preserving room to retreat, but should still watch the full pattern.
Jumping slam
When Fulghor rears back and raises his weapon, prepare to dodge the landing. He can switch targets, so do not assume you are safe just because he was facing another player when he began the move.

Charged holy spear slam
When he stops and raises the spear to charge, either interrupt with enough lightning damage or a high-stagger ultimate, or move clear of the impact and the holy spears that appear beneath players. PC Gamer warns that attacking during this move can slow you, making a greedy follow-up especially risky.
Holy charge and delayed fissures
Evade the charge, then sprint out of the fissures it leaves behind before they explode. Do not return to offense until the fissure sequence has finished.

Phase two: dodge the claw arm, then punish recovery
In phase two, Fulghor gains a large claw arm, increasing the reach and area of his sweeping combos. The cited guide recommends precise dodges toward or through forward-moving sweeps when possible, which can put you behind him. Do not attack until the complete combo ends; use the recovery window that follows.
Claw slam
Watch for the leap and spin, then time a roll or jump just before the claw reaches the ground. The dodge needs to clear both the impact and its shockwave. The timing is tight, so prioritize avoiding the move over squeezing in an attack.

Choose team roles for movement, range, and stagger
No character or party composition is mandatory. PC Gamer’s recommendations are best understood as complementary roles: some characters can maintain pressure as Fulghor relocates, while others help create stagger or exploit openings. Bandai Namco’s character guide describes the relevant abilities.

Manage revives and team survival
Bandai Namco’s official guide says a near-death teammate can be revived by attacking them, and that repeated near-death states make rescue harder until the gauge is reset at a Site of Grace. PC Gamer advises keeping suitable ultimate or self-revival resources available because Fulghor’s movement and pressure can leave little time to rescue an ally. If someone is down, weigh the chance of a safe revive against the danger of entering an active attack sequence.
